I am the maid of honor for my sister's wedding in May and will be attending the customary bridal luncheon the day before the wedding. I am curious as to how formal I have to be and what the best store is to get a dress. Any help/advice is appreciated.

The bridal luncheon is dressy, but not formal. A nice sun dress (if its warm enough) will be perfect. Or a skirt and sweater set will work as well. You want to look like you would when you go to church on Sunday.

It depends on where the luncheon is. If it's at a fancy sit down restaurant, I would try Ann Taylor or Banana Republic. A casual tea? The Gap, Ann Taylor Loft or even Marshall's, TJ Maxx or Ross. Frankly, I can't believe people are still doing luncheons! I always thought it was so outdated. It's like, c'mon, do we REALLY have to talk about your wedding AGAIN?!?!?! :-P For my wedding, I just took out all my girlfriends for a spa treatment of their choice. That was my gift to them for putting up with me for the past year of wedding drama. :)

Something cute is fine. A lot of stores have cute dresses (even Old Navy) at the moment.

Also was at TJ Maax yesterday looking for items and a lot of cute fun (formal) dresses were in stock.
Head to one of those - and pick up a cute pair of shoes -

go to wal-mart--kmart--target and look in the bridal luncheon dress section.
