Ale, by far

Usually lager though, cheaper, more common, less calories.

Well if you go by popular demand then you have to pick Lager. The top 5 best selling brands in U.S. are lagers, even though Lagers take for finesse I think you'll be surprised to know that Bud, Coors, Corona, Heineken and Miller are all Lagers. The best selling "craft" beer is Sam Adams, you guess it, its a Lager. Lager you yeast that bottom ferment and take more time to develop, hence their taste is usually more complex- despite what your beer snob instincts are, even bud is a lager. So its more about the creativity of the brewer then if its a Lager or an Ale

nothing holds comparison to a good ale

i would rather drink a newcastle over an other beer
Corsenkonk is 7$ a bottle but the abbey brown ale and the pale ale are amazing, well worth the money

Well, I'll jump in. I like them equally well, depends on my mood.
Ther is nothing like a crisp German Pilsener when I want something refreshing. It's bracing bitterness with the delicate malt notes dancing on the palate unobstructed by fruity esters can't be beat.
On the other hand, There are sooooo many amazing complex ales of all colors and textures which rival the finest wines on the planet.
Oh, what the hell, another Guinness please... a pint of plain is yer only man!

There are light lagers and ales. There are big lagers and ales. And there's a lot in between. You have to narrow it down a little.

I prefer ales...they tend to have a stronger and heavier taste than most lagers.

Ale - more mellow taste, has a very smooth mouth feel.

Both I and my bf prefer hearty ales. He drinks a variety of brands; my favorite is Harpoon IPA which we must smuggle in because it is not sold here (Montreal).
