Once properly treated a person with bipolar disorder can do pretty much everything anyone else can. There's no reason why he shouldn't have a social life or marry. Make sure your spouse knows the signs of a relapse, but it's not something that should totally interfere with life once it's treated.

Bipolar Disorder is an illness where a person has mood disturbances. The person can be either manic, depressed, or mixed. Mania is when the person feels euphoric and might even develop a psychosis. Depression is when a person feels sad. A mixed state is a combination of both. Bipolar Disorder is often treated with an anticonvulsant, a antidepressant and an antipsychotic medication.
As for marriage, it depends on how stable a person is. Can they keep a job? Is their spending under control? Are they sleepung well?
I hope I answered this. It is a difficult topic. Good luck and g-d bless !!

See www.bipolarworld.net & http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolar The disorder involves moodswings, from depression to elation, and the treatment of choice is usually mood stabilisers, but it is important that it be diagnosed properly, by a doctor. After treatment begins to have the desired effect, a successful marriage is possible.

it is known as mood disorder or manic depressive disorder, one of the major psychotic illnesses which can be treated by drugs as lithium salts, anti epileptics as tegretol, atypical anti psychotics as zyprexa, plus other modes of psychotherapy.
generally, the prognosis is good, but the disease can take a chronic form of mania or depression in cycles.
there is no objection for further social life as marriage,if the patient is in remission state plus the ongoing therapy.

Formerly called “Manic-Depressive Illness,” a mood disorder characterized by severe alterations in mood which are usually episodic and recurrent. At least one mood episode must be of the “manic” type, in which a person experiences either extreme elevation in mood (euphoria) and energy level, or extreme agitation and irritability. In addition, episodes of depressed mood are usually present.

basically serious mood swings.
a person who might be elated at one moment may be extremely depressed or suicidal another moment.
if they're getting help for it and maybe taking prescribed medicine, it is possible for a person to suppress their disorder and live a fairly normal life.

Bipolar disorder is when someone is as happy as a clam one minute, then the next, he's very sad or angry for no reason.
