First of all enjoy Europe while you are there! Mannheim is wonderful and centrally located to so many things.

Secondly --- if you are a sahm or Army Wife you HAVE a job just not one that pays well! ;)

I'm not sure what you are looking for but have you checked the Non Appropriated Funds sites? Been to the office on the kaserne (may be in Heidelberg)? Talked to civilians you know? eg the librarian,etc and asked how they got their jobs? Sometimes it helps to talk to people who've been there already ---- I know that our librarian in Giessen was also part of the German systym which is a huge blessing.

The other thing to remember is that there are only so many jobs on post and you may just need to take this time to up your education, work on personal issues/goals, get active in the FRG/PWOC/other groups on post and enjoy Europe. All that volunteer time does transfer to work hours and experience eventually.

its really hard to get a civilian job overseas...i had the same problem. i live in weilerbach germany and have been waiting to get back into the military and wanted a job on base but...yeah right its either work at popeyes or burger king or work at the BX 2 days a week. no thanks. but theres an office you can go to that has better civilian jobs, where you can actually do a job for the army or air force, or whatever. just have your husband ask someone in his chain what the office is...on ramstein i believe it was in the same building as the education office. but anyways they have a seminar twice a month on how military spouses can get a job and everything like that.its very helpful and its way better than working at popeyes...hope this helped...

Tell me about it! I've been in Baumholder for two years and the only jobs available are ones that I'm either underqualified for (teaching positions and the like), or overqualified for (fast food, which I've already done, not doing again!).
SO I don't have a job. I keep the house clean, pay our bills, cook dinner, deal with bill collectors, do laundry, and stuff like that.
It's pretty demanding sometimes.

Do you speak German? It is probably a requirement in some form for all jobs. I work in Hamburg and have had to learn the language.
