Are any illnesses that are caused by a virus known to be curable by medical treatment? Or can medicine only treat the symptoms of a viral illness?

To the above answer I say: those vaccines dont treat, they prevent. Second I say: The Tuberculosis one doesn't make you immune to TB. Its BCG - it gives you good immunity to M. bovis, and some immunity to TB. Thirdly: Tb and large percentage of pneumonia cases are caused by bacteria.

To answer you question, I know of no cures, although there are treatments:
We have an array of HIV drugs which keep some people alive for 20 years and counting

For rabies we give the vaccine post exposure because it will kick start the immune system into doing something. But in reality this is all we can do: Try to relieve the symptoms and help the immune system.

there is no absolutely exact drugs for viral illnesses or dse...although there are some drugs has been given when there is viral attatct to a patient with combination of some antibacterial drugs. But usually, they treat the symptoms that brought about viral infection. And then they maintain good diet rich in vit C for the immune system, to fight for the virus.
