Bound's hubby here:

Actually, under NRA and IPSC rules, there are not age minimums for competitors ... they do allow for Junior and Sub-Junior categories.

The only matches that I am aware of that have a minimum age requirement are the excellence-in-competition matches sponsored by the CMP ... and that minimum is 16, but you can get an age waiver.

Your major concern should be both state and federal law. Some of the most recent laws that have been enacted actually eliminate youth contact with firearms by prohibiting any person not legally eligible to purchase a firearm from actually handling a firearm.

Good luck and I wish you the best in your competition pursuits!

Check out IPSC, You should be able to shoot your 9mm in the stock pistol class. You would be in the Junior division.

old fuzz is right. I have been to competitions with kids half your age. USPSA.org is the website to go to. Read the rulebook and as soon as you get there tell them that you are new. This way they can direct you to things.

My concern is transportation. How are you going to get a gun you cannot legally own to the competition?

Go to a local shooting range. You should use the site below to find one in your area.

We have members that are12 and 13 in my IPSC/USPSA club. Clubs may have different rules, but mine are that you are with a responsible adult and they must stay with you while your competing.
