NEED FOR A GURU-
You need a burning candle to light a candle. Even so an illumined soul alone can enlighten another soul. A spiritual preceptor or guru is necessary for aspirants. When difficulty arises even in the case of finding the way in streets and roads what to speak of the difficulties in the razor-path of spirituality. When one walks alone with closed eyes! In the case of the spiritual path, it is difficult to find your way; the help of the teacher is necessary at every moment. The mind will mislead you often. The guru will be able to remove pitfalls and obstacles, and lead you along the right path. Association with the guru is an armor and fortress to guard you against all temptations and unfavourable forces of the material world. Every aspirant on the spiritual path must live under a guru for eradication of his evil qualities and defects.
The nature of egoism is such that you will not able to find out your own defects. It is only the guru who will find out your defects. He shows the right path. A guru is absolutely necessary for every aspirant in the spiritual path.
Grace of God takes the form of the guru. The guru is God himself manifesting in personal form to guide the aspirant. Man can learn from man only, and hence, God teaches through a human body. The guru is united with God. He has free and unhampered access into both the realms. The guru is verily a link between the individual and the Immortal. He purifies all. He tears your veil of ignorance.

We are souls. That is the reason we are not satisfied in this world. So we need to understand why man has been struggling since ages but is still as unsatisfied as ever.
We can logically infer that never ever will come a time when our materialistic desires will be able to satisfy us. If the struggle is going to be futile, why try it?
So let us look to the needs of our soul, who we know is immortal unlike our body.
Refuge of the soul is in God, but God is incomprehensible by even the smartests of the minds, and that is the only instrument available with us.
So reading of Bible or Gita or Quran can not help us, because we will try our minds only on those, and the mind being incapable, we can not know God.
The Guru is a divine personality and can show us the right path.
But , beware! Don't follow any body blindly and make him your guru. It will happen only with the grace of God. So cry out loud for God to listen to your prayer.

Because, in Bhagavad-gita(4.34), Lord Sri Krishna says,
Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.
It is also mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam (11.3.21.22)
"Any person who is seriously desirous of achieving real happiness must seek out a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of a spiritual master is that he must have realized the conclusion of the scriptures by deliberation and arguments and thus be able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken complete shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, are to be understood as bona fide spiritual masters."
"Accepting the bona fide spiritual master as one's life and soul and worshipable deity, the disciple should learn from him the process of pure devotional service. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari, the soul of all souls, is inclined to give Himself to His pure devotees. Therefore, the disciple should learn from the spiritual master to serve the Lord without duplicity and in such a faithful and favorable way that the Supreme Lord, being satisfied, will offer Himself to the faithful disciple.
