In Europe at good resturants the placement of the silverware also tells how well you liked the meal.

Think of a clock face:
Knife and fork along side each other:
At 3 O'clock good meal
At 6 O'clock not good
in between 3 and 6 level of the meal.

knife at 9 O'clock and fork at 3 O'clock excellent meal.

Europeans also eat with the knife in the left hand and fork in the right (for left handers opposite). They can cut with the knife as they eat and use the knife to push or hold food as they get it with the fork.
