This is a long way out but i am considering going to Canada for a white chrismas in 2008 (im in australia)

I need to get from Brisbane, to Edmonton.

From Sydney, I can go with 2 options.

Fly Air Canada directly from Sydney to Vancouver on a 17 hour flight then get straight in to Edmonton with a connection

OR

I can fly Jetstar to Honolulu in a 10 hour flight, have a day in Honolulu, fly to Vancouver then a connection to Edmonton on Air Canada. Comming home will be the same but it would be overnight.

If I took the 3 stoper, I would go buisness class as it works out cheep.

What would you do??

If you have the time, take the 3 stops. If you're pressed for time (like 1 week or less) then go for the faster connection. Business class + an acclimation day in Hawaii = Relatively enjoyable travel. Economy class 17+ hours = not so good, but does give 2 extra days at your destination.

I would go through Honolulu. You get to stay there for a day, and plus flying business class on a longer flight is always good. Of course you will have to go through US customs and then through Canadian customs when you arrive there. But flying business class is definitely good.

And to answer the person's question about nonstop and direct... they're NOT the same thing. A direct flight means the plane makes a stop but there is no change of planes or flight number. Nonstop obviously means the plane goes from Point A to Point B with no stops in between.

If you are trying to get to Canada within a certain time frame I would say do the nonstop but if you have the extra time to spend in HI, I say go for it. The business class is more comfortable and worth the price.
Have a safe flight.

Either way is a long time on an airplane; if it were I, I'd choose the option that allowed me to go business class if for no other reason than the comfort and the extra room.

Pick the second option with 3 stops since flying with business class you would be more comfortable.

if you have the time, do the 3 stopper, then you can see hawaii, if you don't have the time, do the non-stop flight.

Ummm - isn't "direct" and "non-stop" the same thing?
