I would imagine it's fine, but it might not be hydrating enough... I am not sure.
Another thing to consider is it core plugging (can't remember the term for this) I got a really plan Luberiderm lotion that seemed to work just fine.
And to the person who suggested neo-sporin... NO! That is the first thing my tattoo artist told me NOT to do... that and Vaseline.

I wouldnt use the aloe vera, it can dry out your skin during the process of healing. I recommend using the A&D for the first day, then after that apply a good fragrance free moisturizer. I've found that after many tattoo's Aveeno fragrance free, ultra moisturizer for dry skin works best. My healing time was almost cut in half as appose to useing the A&D for an extended amount of time. Remember the A&D is only a skin protectant, not a moisturizer.

You can, it won't hurt anything.
Check my sources, though. This guy says that the aloe vera wouldn't keep his tattoo moist enough, and instead opted for the Vasoline Intensive Care stuff.

no! dont use the aloe vera gel. it will pull out the color! i dont recomend a&d either for the same reason. what you need to get is aquafor. it is in the lotion aisle in drug stores and supermarkets. it keeps the color of the tattoo crisp and new looking
