the reason why i asked this is because my engagement ring's band is kinda thick so if i have to wear a wedding band also it would make it look so chunky. and i'm having a hard time finding a band to match the engagement ring. if i knew better, i would have asked my fiance to get me the set types that comes w/ both engagement ring and band together. my engagement ring is set in platinum like around $600 kinda expensive. but now i might hv to buy a set or find a band that i can wear w/ my engagement ring. thank you all so much for your answers. you've been so helpful.

For most women the engagment ring is only worn alone for the duration of the actual engagent. On their wedding day they are given a band (which goes on first, closest to her heart) and the engagment ring goes on top of the band. At first most women wear both rings together, but as time goes on and babies and housewifely duties pile on the engagement ring is really only worn for special occasions, so it doesnt get damaged or worse lost (ie flushed down the toilet one day while scrubbing). I personally have never known a woman who opted to wear her engagment ring instead of her wedding band, but I suppose it could happen, though I am not sure why she would choose to do this since the wedding band is a special symbol of marriage.

The rule is you do whatever you wish to do. The tradition is wedding ring on left ring finger, engagement ring on top of it. Or wedding band alone, engagement ring on right ring finger. But it is entirely your choice.

However, if you choose not to wear rings, or just an engagement ring, you will be in for a lot of questions about your status. You will be constantly answering and explaining that you are married, choose to wear ring/none this way, etc. If other's curiousity or nosiness bothers you, you will be bothered a lot!

well, the engagement ring means your engaged and the wedding band means you are married!! What is your reason for not wanting to wear the band?? They go together just like the husband and wife. If not wearing it upsets your husband then i would wear it when I went out so he knows you are not trying to hide anything. I wish I knew your reason for not wanting to wear it, then i could answer this better. Does the ring burn your finger??? Personally, I wear a band that has diamonds in it..its very comfortable and it covers engagement and wedding!!

I wear only my engagement ring, it's antique and beautiful on it's own.
I have a simple 2mm white gold band that I wear when I'm swimming or doing something where my other ring could get lost. It's fairly cheap, not engraved, easily replacable if need be. I am so happy to have this "back up" so I can have fun at the lake or whatever...
I've heard you can wear your engagement ring on your right hand and band on the left, but whatever.
In this day and age I say do what you want and what you're comfortable with. As long as you have something on your left ring finger, people know you're married
peace, good luck!~

i think you can do whatever you want. It's up to you. But, a lot of people wear both. Everyone I know wears their wedding band on the inside and the engagement ring on the outside (contrary to the other respondents).

I am only wearing an engagement ring. I like it without a band.

Correctly, you only wear the wedding band. However, with nice engagement rings' availability these days, you may wear both on same finger. The engagement ring should be worn inside with the wedding band on the outside.

You can wear one or the other or both, whichever you choose. There are no requirements for rings-- it's just a tradition and they're optional.

Talk to your groom about what he would prefer, as well.

If you wear the engagement ring alone, it will give the impression that you're engaged and not married.

You don't even have to wear any rings! It's not like a law or anything. It's just a ridiculous tradition. Just do whatever makes you happy.
