I'll be 23 in a couple of weeks and I'm still a child... my mother and father created me, so I will forever be their CHILD.
If you want something chronologically speaking, then birth to 12 years old is childhood. 13-19 is "teenagers" thus the thirTEEN, fourTEEN, etc.

I started out as an infant. Then due to the abject poverty in our region, my childhood was sold to support the growing family. Sadly my years from 3-17 were purchased and I will never get them back.
