It is as hard as you make it. It is clear that you have a lack of motivation. One way to help and/or beat this is to become goal-oriented.

It is not enough to ''wish'' that you were in shape, it has to become part of your value system and be a "goal."

If you do want to get in shape, weigh what you did X years ago, look like that person, lose 100 pounds by June, or some other wish like this, further investigate it . As far as giving up, it's time to get rid of the All or None thinking .

Okay, so the problem with a statement such as, “I want to get in shape,” is that it is not a measurable goal, it does not have a timeline, it is not specific, and there is no action plan. These, as well as being realistic, are what make up the components of an effective goal. A better goal concept is, “I will run 2 miles a day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every week from March through June.” Here, you have an action plan (running), a timeline (March-June), it’s specific , it’s measurable , and it’s realistic .

Now, back to your value system. If part of your value system includes being physically healthy, then you need to break down how you define what physically healthy means. Based on your definition, you can create goals that will help you live in alignment with your values.

You can reach me via Messenger or E-mail (or anyone reading this) if you would like more help/info. Have a great day!

And, remember, they claim it takes ~21 days to break and/or make a habit.

Another concept: Trick your mind into believing that exercising each day has the same importance to you that going to work or going to school does. Or believe that exercising is as important to you as is giving a sick child their required medication. Play with your mind - that’s where it makes a difference : ).

Hey Dawn, Have you heard of or tried 'curves'? I started in August last year and I absoloutely love going. The friendly people & instructors, a bit of a laugh and chit-chat are what kept me going back and before I knew it I was seeing results from the workout and that really kicked me into gear. I have just celebrated my 100th workout and am feeling (and looking) better than ever but it has been so easy. Occasionally I feel like not bothering but if I can just get there, just walk through the doors then I'm home and hosed. My advice- if you possibly can- do your exercise in the morning. It charges the batteries for the rest of the day. In the evenings you just get too tired. Best of luck and whatever you choose make it something fun that you enjoy!

Try finding some classes or activities you like or working out with a friend. I found that I really enjoy using the sauna after a work out, so that is what motivates me to go.

Also, set goals for yourself and put them in writing. Don't start off pushing yourself too much. Set realistic goals that are designed to be lifestyle changes, not just weight loss.

It is hard.

Get an exercise buddy - a friend to work out with.

Plan ahead the time and place - get exercise videos, go to the gym, walk in the park or at the beach.

Schedule workouts one day at a time or two or three a week,
if something comes up and you miss a day,

call your exercise buddy - and reschedule - just like you would any important appointment.

Not very hard except if the gym is far from you. To get into the habit, look at yourself often in the mirror, full body.

it is very hard to start any exercise for a beginner. the way to deal with that is to choose an exercise that you are interested and stick to it. Such as play any sports you like, swimming, yoga, or weight training etc. Once you are addicted to it you will feel like you want to exercise everyday.

First of all, discipline yourself (the hardest part though). Set a goal. Start with something easy (find it in internet). Before that set your time or do a time table. Organise your time properly.
