Is it ok to lie about yourself on the internet?

I keep it real for the most part, I wouldnt like to do this but is it an ok thing to do? They say you should protect your identity on the net, what should you do?

i think it depends on the context. if youre internet dating you should probably be honest since youre trying to build a relationship with that person but in chat rooms or something i dont think it matters what you say about yourself since no one will ever know anyway.

if u hav to lie abt it dont mention it at all. i guess u could call that a lie of ommision but i think its better than and out right lie. if u'r looking for an e-pal stick to the basics and truth until u kno the person better, even then be on ur guard cos if u'r thinking abt lying who's to say they havent thot abt or done it (lying)

but above all else keep safe, dont give out ur address/ phone number to a person online. i guess i could say act how u would act with a person u met for the first tym in a club?
-would u give them ur address?

Sure why not. As long as you dont have any intsion meet those who may read what you write I dont see why It wouldnt be ok. The internet can be fun. You can be anyone or anything you want to be. As long as your not causing harm to someone else with your little lies, I say go for it.

For most of the times, lying is never okay. Expecially if you're planning to go further after doing a communication thru the internet. But if it's to avoid spamming, I think it's ok not to revealing yourself. Basically, your heart knows when to tell the truth.

You go online under an alias of course. Regarding the facts about you... I would say go with telling the truth because thats the only way someone will get to know you for you. No personal details to be exchanged of course.
