Is there something that reminds you of a great time in your childhood? Example. I am 14 but through my whole life, the glamour of it was going to Argentina to visit my mom's family (which includes my cousins, which were sooo special to me.) My twin sister has the same feelings and the memories of the Argentinian family are triggered by smells such as newly cut grass, mate, or other smells that come out of nowhere but remind so well of our time(s) in Argentina with the family.

Anyone here have such a memory? If so, write down what things trigger the memory of it and exactly of what it reminds you of...

Thanks,
Chau!

After I read some of your answers, the smells reminded me of so much more memories. Such as crayons and plastic colored doug for kids to play with remind me of when I was about 5, I loved that smell. This perfume reminds me of my French grandmother who always wears strong perfumes. And of course when I just walk down the street and smell something that reminds me of home, I don't know what it is but it reminds me of so much.

*The smell of chlorine takes me back to 1976 when I stayed a month with my dad and we went to the waterslides a lot down by the beach.
*The smell of a pipe (smoking... tobacco...) reminds me of my grandpa who died when I was 15. When I was a little girl he would bounce me on his lap abd play the harmonica. He always smelled of his pipe... FUNNY, I can't stomache the smell of cigarette smoke... but a pipe has a sweet smell to me... maybe it's the memory? ; )

Our memories are tied closely to the olfactory nerves. As a child, I had a grandfather who smelled of Borkum Riff apple pipe tobacco and King Leo peppermint sticks.

Although he never smoked in front of us kids, we could smell that pipe tobacco scent and the peppermint he would use to not only mask the smell but to give to us to snack on from time to time.

Honeysuckle is also a HUGE trigger for me. The mere whiff of the wonderul aroma is enough to take me back to the warm summer sun and the cool grass underfoot on my grandparents farm. It reminds me of those days where we would sit under the giant oak tree and nibble on the honeysuckle blossoms to drink the nectar for ourselves.

Emeraud cologne reminds me of my late mother. I can be anywhere at any time and a woman will walk by wearing it and I am instantly transported to my childhood where my mother would be all dressed smartly for a night out with my daddy and she would have that fragrance on.

It was a wonderful time to see how in love they were and remained so even now that she has passed on.

Thanks for the excellent question and the trip down memory lane!

There's a smell some old people have- I don't know what it is, but very occasionally I catch a whiff of it & I am transported back to my Granny's little cottage & I remember everything about that place, & her... sometimes I want to run after the person in the street and say: "Hey! What do you smell of?" but obviously I can't, so I guess I'll never know what it is...
it's not a strong smell, it's not like a strong perfume...
(I am so lucky to have such good memories of early child-hood).

Oh there's a lot of smell that reminds me of particular things/moments in the past. Like when I smell this ink of a pen, I remember my mom. And the smell of crayons, too. Those remind me of the times i had with my mom.

Yes! All the time. And I thought I was too sentimental crazy.
I am constantly reminded of this place whenever I use this hair serum simply because I was using it when I was visiting this country. It brings me all the good memories of these places so vividly. And lilies always reminds me of the hospitals. Had so much of it when my sister was hospitalized. Lilies are no longer my favourite flowers.

Mmm - cookies baking = time spent with Mom in the kitchen, learning to cook.

Pine trees = Christmas.

Vanilla = Mom (who loved vanilla and doubled the amount in any recipe)

Salt air = going to the boardwalk as a kid.

Organ music = riding the carousel.

What a fun question!

Diesel fuel, tires or WD40, reminds me of home and being in my dad's garage. Hes a diesel truck mechanic. And going to the salon reminds me of my mom because she always has that nice just trimmed look to her hair. French language reminds me of my brother because he majored in French. Bicycles with the pegs on the wheels to stand on because my other brother would pick me up from elementary and I would ride on the pegs of his bike. And sawdust, reminds me of my dear old grandfather who died about 6 years ago and he was a miraculous carpenter.

Great question, thanks for the memories.

The smell of a pipe, especially with cherry tobacco, reminds me of my Grandpa, who passed away in 1989.
