Im at the point where I want to try the surgical weigh loss using the stomach band, more of a non evasive alternaticve to reconstructing my stomach to a small pouch. I need to know if anyone out there has had this procedure and what I can expect. I have heard good things like the weight loss, and bad things like being sick, having to take expensive suppliments, hunger, being on liquids only for a time, and diarreah, vomiting and having to take a long period off work for aftercare. What was your experience, would you reccommend it, how soon can I go back to work (desk job). Tell me the worst thing I can expect, other than death. I need to hear it from somebody who has actually done this, and yes I have visited the web sites, but want to hear real life real people experience. I am 48 and need to lose about 140 pounds. What was it like ? Was it really bad, or was it not as bad as some would say ? Were you starving having to eat so little ? How long to adjust to the eating pattern ?

Also, what exactly were you allowed to eat and how much, did u still have to eat like on a regular diet ? I scares me to think I can only eat a teaspoon of food every couple of hours, or is that a myth ? Give me the low down in simple language i can understand.

Might I also add that I have arthritis and fibromyalgia, so exercise is not always possible, often painful, but I do walk my doggie and stretch.

Surgey should always be a last resort, even the lapband can be dangerous as they can slip. if losing some pounds of any description and inches is what you want then I would suggest you use a diet that is all natural and is rich in protein and vitamins, which is what the FDA recommends. I used a protein based diet after a friend who had lost a lot of weight with this recommended it to me. All the way through you feel great and energized, you also get great coaching and support along the way. The people are very friendly and gave me lots of great advice. I needed to lose 40 pounds and I did so with no problems. The products really work and you feel great whilst losing weight. I lost all my weight in less than four months and they have helped me to keep it off. I would definitely recommend using them. My sister did this also and lost 76 pounds in five months (She works out, I don’t). There is no pressure and they will even send you a load of free samples so you can try before you buy. The samples were the thing that initially convinced me that this was the right diet for me. You also a get a free complete health consultation with the samples, I think I just paid the postage, but for what I got it was well worth it. You have to go to www.myhealthabc.com to register your details to get the free samples and the free advice etc and then they just call you up and ask you a few questions. It was so easy. Their main site is www.myhealthabcmall.com and you can see all the products and packages and order from their. Its nice to have contact with real people who care about you losing weight and improving your health. I am in better health now than I have ever been thanks to these products and I know that I will continue to keep the weight off with the help I have received. I hope this helps.

You Have lived 48 yrs with this? why change now?
a Doctors subliminal suggestion? come on..You need not do that sort of maiming and torture on yourself. Of course you will get all those side effects, your body for one, will not easily take this drastic change. 140 lbs is not that much to take off. You said that you will need to take supplements to keep the metabolism going. Well, please try that first before the drastic. Start the supplements and healthy diet now. Yes I know of one who did this she died...in a car accident, but she conveyed to my mom that it was a big mistake and lots of money in the maintenance and doc visits. Unless this condition is life threatening than do it,but also before operation consult a dietitian who may be of help in setting up a plan towards a goal that will be of more benefit. there are private exercise clubs as well for those who are over weight. get physical. and put your mind to it.

My wife has a Masters Degree in Nursing. She had the stomach band procedure done last fall. Its an in an out surgery. She lost the 72 pounds she wanted to lose and has been fine. Lap surgery took about 30 mins, she went in at 7 in the morning and was home by 12 noon same day. Her insurance did not cover it and it was 15,000.00. But for her it was worth it. She is 51years old and very happy to have it done. She had it done by Dr. Edward Felix in Fresno Cal. Repost if you need more information.
