If you plan to travel to foreign country, what is the 1st thing you want to know?

Goodness there is a lot of things but I guess the first on my list would be:
If there is transfers from the airport to the motel.
Sleep is all I need when I first arrive in a foreign city, after a long flight.

The weather. Some places look and feel so much different when it is not so hot that you have to go jumping from shadow to shadow. I recently re-visited Nepal in the summer and had a hard time believing that some of the heavenly places from my winter-time memories were the same places. Bangkok is tough in April and May (until the rains come).
Other places - like southern Spain - transform for two reasons: the weather; and when the schools vacations are over, the hoards of last-minute travellers return home leaving the streets almost empty.

The first thing for me is the current civil situation in that country. For me, the price and money are not main factors for me to concern about. If I come up with a plan to travel to foreign country, I must prepare a huge gold in my pockets too. I'd like to spend my money on the best moment while I stay there without any bombs or scams to worry about. Safety is everything for me.

I want to know if there is a visa requirement. My friend flew from the states to Brazil, didn't know about the visa requirement and had to fly back to the states (on his dime of course) and couldn't visit the country.
Guess that's the most important thing...are they going to let you in when you get there.
Then, number 2, of course, how cheap is the beer?
