The reason that they flipped you off is that they have a small mind. Only a small mind would consider using such an immature expression, in the first place.
The fact that they cut you off means that they "just don't care" about you or anyone. To make matters worse, they flipped you off as if you were in the wrong!?! So, they are twice as rude and ignorant as you thought! Once for cutting you off, twice for suggesting that you stick that finger up your....now how can you respect someone who defends their own stupidity?

I had a similar thing happen, someone cut me off and when I honked, they flipped me off|
The reason is, is that such people have no regard for actual justice and the rights of others|
If they receive a just reprimand, they will not receive it as a due correction, but retaliate, because they see human relations in terms, not of justice, but of pure survival of the fittest competition between individuals|
As a result, a reprimand (even when it is properly due) or a suggestion or a proper authoritative order, is not seen in its proper light, but is seen as the mere desire of another individual contradicting their's|
So with a law of the jungle mentality, whatever crosses whatever they happen to want (even if it is warranted), is seen as nothing but an attack on them, warranting proper retaliation| (since their vision of reality has shrunk, entirely, to the subjective sphere - you can thank Immanuel Kant for that one)|
That is why now, when we are driving, we have to be very careful with things such as flashing our lights to remind the oncoming driver that his lights are off in the dark, or honking because he has committed a rudeness on the road.
In many areas, that is a dangerous thing to do, since much road rage comes from the way that much of society thinks about things now|

Most people think only about what they "see". You have no idea what that person has personally had to deal with throughout their day. Perhaps your honking was the culmination of "the day from hell". Don't take it personally. That person probably couldn't tell you what the color of your car is ten minutes after they flipped you off. It's water under the dam.

When ever you honk or flip off. You should expect to be honked at or flipped off in return. Depending on the state.

Depends on the situation. Were they signaling and you refused to let them in? Did they have to merge, like on a freeway on ramp, and you insisted on getting ahead of them? If so, you were the ****** and they were pissed at you.
If they were just weaving in and out, and they cut in front of you simply to move that extra car length in traffic, then they were already frustrated. They may have thought they had more than enough room and that you were being overly conservative. Or they may have been ****** inconsiderate *****.
You'll never know. It's a safe bet that as much of an ****** you thought he was, he was probably thinking the same about you at that moment. Go figure.

Because they were too arrogant to admit that they were at fault.
If they had accepted they cut you off as the reason you honked, they would have waved indicating they were sorry.

Because its actually a form of complimentary communication. I would advise for you to drive to your local hood (impoverished area) and communicate in the same manner with those folks. They particularly enjoy when you make a finger like a gun and point it at them. I would drive very slowly just to be sure they saw me doing it. I would also have a Rebel flag on my vehicle. This also is an easily reconizable symbol of peace and love.

road rage is a condition that transcends far beyond the immediate situation . they probably didn't give a damn for considerations or the psychology of the road but just wanted immediate gratification and the hell with the next guy . this hatred is prevalent more and more these days and is likely too complicated for this forum .

I love when people flip me off. It's so funny to know they care enough to say hello back.
