I don't know if this helps or not, but I'm still in grade school, and I think I know just what your son (if he's in grade school) needs.

First of all, he needs encouragement. Make sure you show just how happy you are when he does do well, because he might try to get bad grades just to get attention.

Secondly, offer to help him with curriculum if he has any questions, and put forth the effort to learn about what he is learning, so you can be prepared to answer any questions.

Another option would be if he was not being challenged enough. His teacher might be of assistance, and you can get their school emails and exchange notes with his teacher.

If none of these are the case, perhaps you should sit down with your son and discuss what interests him and what doesn't, and try to take what he doesn't enjoy and turn it into something fun for him. Quiz him at the dinner table, keep him on his toes, and reward him for good effort in those classes.

I hope that helps!

I'm 16, and when I was 14-15, I became completely discouraged from going to school and whatnot, then I realised how boring it can be doing nothing. I'm from Australia, and there's alot more opportunities here than, say, America, for example. My mum gave me choices, and now I'm happily back at school, doing extremely well. So, give him too much freedom, sounds impossible, but he'll get sick of it soon enough. And I know, in some countries, you can do short courses in a specific area, so find what he's interested in, and find if a course or something is available, and get him into it. Or you could try seeing a doctor, 'cause it could be his attention span or something, which a correct, but not too drastic diet can fix.

Most of us often get confused between education & knowledge. The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you would want to improve his education or knowledge. If latter is your choice then channelise his energies in the positive areas of his interest & encourage him to do the best in that. Remember, world's most exceptional people are not always very literate (Degree oriented is what i mean) but do have a lot of wisdom & knowledge. Maybe your son is one of them. my wishes...

Try to find a method that excites him I guess. Lots of kids turn around with just a little attention from the right resource. Just gotta find it, I've helped cousins, but my own has a couple more years before I face that as a parent

motivate him and give some reward that catch his attension to study..children are more interested in playing because they are in stage where can explore the world not to think of what is written in the books..you should take a look thier abilities and interest also that can help him to improve such ability..

As parent you must know that it is your duty to see to it interest or not he must study in order to get ahead. If he slacks off it will affect his grades. I don't know what grade he's in but if he's a small child or a teen if he wants a high school diploma he better get his act together.

This could be a sypmtom of your child being poorly challenged at school. Meet with his teacher and discuss possibilities of raising expectations for him.
