This means that everytime we learn something new, our minds in a sense grow bigger with information and as long as we keep learning and getting new ideas, we never return to our former uninformed state of mind.

Wow! that is stretching it. Reads as if Tesla or Einstein may have made that quote.
Sounds that a new discovery was made. If that something is so profound, and if no one has thought of,invented, conceived,or implemented whatever it was that tweaked the mind in its discovery. That differing state of mind affected the person so much he/or she will not return to that mindset it in which engulfed that persons entire life or ideals prior to the new idea.
Life will take on new meaning as the pursuit of this discovery becomes clarified, defined, implemented. That idea or discovery will consume the discoverer to take pursuit that which has grasped, enlightened and changed that individuals perception or manner in which was former, and now has become the new. Much like a Caterpillar building a cocoon and coming out as a butterfly.

It means simply that once you have learned something new, you will never be the same as you were before you knew it.

ie: When you first learned simple grade 3 mathematics, you didn't have a clue how it worked. Now that you know it, you can never go back or imagine a world where 2+2 does not equal 4.

Consider sight...the act of simple human seeing.

Once you "see", can you ever imagine what it is to NOT be able to see? When the mind is forced to perceive a new idea or sensation without artificial drugs, it can not return to its prior state.

Drug addictions are the opposite...the craving for drugs is an attempt to regain the unnatural state.

Sounds like it means that when you broaden your mind you can't make it narrow again. Personally I think this is wishful thinking. Minds can do all sorts of things that don't really make sense.
