So that we can restrict a cdrom or usb flash disk not to run automatically when inserted? Also tell if it possible that autorun doesn't run even if we double click the drive. i.e. cdrom or flash disk?

if you have xp pro you can use the group policy editor

1. Go to My Computer
2. Right Click on Cdrom or USB Icon and Click Properties.
3. Click on AutoPlay Tab.
Here you can control all the actions on different media types.

To disable autorun:
4. Select radio "Select an Action to perform"
and select option "Take No Action"
5. Click on Ok.

You are done :)

To disable autorun in winXP home, login as admin.
Click Start > Run
Type REGEDIT
Press ok

Click on the registry branches as below

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer

Create a new value called: NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Type is: DWORD
Value is: 0x000000b1 (177)

Log off and log on or reboot.
