...Isn't it interesting how that "fictional character" you speak of changed our calendar all around with His birth? I didn't know fictional characters could do that.
...Jesus of Nazareth was a real, historical person, witnessed by the Bible, secular historians of His day, and by millions of changed lives down through the centuries. He made some incredible claims. He claimed to be God and the only way to God.
..John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me."
...John 5:18 For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
...Who do you say that He is? Is He a liar, a lunatic, a legend, or is He Lord and God as He said? He leaves you no wiggle room on this one, and to say that He is just a good moral teacher or good moral man is a cop out.
...Your answer has eternal importance. I urge you to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved" (Acts 16:31).
...Whosoever will, may come.

If Jesus was fictional why would twelve intelligent men (Jesus disciples) have died for what they knew to be a lie?
How can one realistically discount the testimony of over 500 witnesses to a living Jesus following His crucifixion ?!
( 1 Corinthians 15:6 ). ......<>< <><

Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth WAS a real guy - he was a revolutionary who was one of the leaders to the Jewish opposition to the Roman occupation of Judea - that's why Roman Governor Pontias Pilate had him crucified.
He was also the real-life model for the fictional Jesus Christ, the Son of God that is worshipped by Christians. 300 years after they crucified Rabbi Jesus, the Romans rewrote the stories that early underground Christian monks had written 40 years after Rabbi Jesus' execution.
The Romans modeled their fictional Jesus Christ on the pagan myths of Rome, Greece and Egypt (the whole "virgin birth" thing is plagarized from the story of Isis and Horus from Egyptian pagan mythology)
The Romans also covered up the fact that the Jesus they worshipped was murdered by the Roman government - instead, they blamed the Jews - who were victims of massive Roman persecution at the time (over 300 other Jews were executed by Governor Pilate during the year that Rabbi Jesus was crucified!)
But, still and all, that Rabbi Jesus guy WAS a role model - he fought againt all odds against the superpower of his day, and was willing to lay down his life for his cause!!! Too bad that all that real human heroism has been buried under 2,000 years of supernatural mythology!

Since it sounds like you are reading a different Jesus ... must not be from the Bible since historically it is evident Jesus did exist as well as the authenticity of the Biblical text is phenomenal. Perhaps you are reading a child's story from Mexico.
If you want to follow a nonfictional character by the same name ... try the Bible. It's a fantastic read. You'll be in awe of the true historcal characters.

if you strive to be like Jesus I think you will be sorely let down.... that is unless you can turn water to wine, walk on water, etc. Personally, I can, because I created Jesus, but not everyone is like me. You should try to understand Jesus' philosophy of life and not just strive to mimic his actions.

Jesus is not fictional.
Luke 12:8-10
"I tell you, whosoever acknowledges Me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns Me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."
