In Islam smiling is good,its actually a sudqa to smile to your loved ones,and for laughing it should be done in a limit, i mean you should not laugh with your lungs out.I think you got the picture.

God has a fabulous sense of humor-just look at some things in his creation-wierd animals on land and oceons,not to mention some of us humans. of course it is not against the christian faith to laugh or smile. God is not a creator of sour people who look as though they daily dose on lemon juice!
Just be careful not to laugh at the wrong things-i.e. Sari(Sarah) laughed when the angels told Abraham she would have a baby when she was very very old and they confronted her about it and she denied it.
However, I leave this profound thought with you "laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you sleep alone!"

I've noticed that I have never seen a Amish person smile or laugh.

but in islam it encourges everyone to smile for example that hadith:
a smile in ur brother's face is a charity" prophet muhammed p.b.u.h .
