According to Amazon reviews, chessmaster 10th edition seems to be the most popular. It's almost as good as Fritz and it is much more user friendly.

"best" is an ambiguous time period at the same time as it includes application. if you're looking for for the utmost ELO appearing application, then Fritz 9 by ability of Chessbase is the finest application - that's prognosis good factors and power make it proper for the international's accurate GM's. in spite of the undeniable fact that, so a procedures because the finest application to regulate to amatuer play is going, i have self assurance Chessmaster X to be the finest because it gives you any such vast volume of diverse personalities and taking section in levels. Zappa, for sure, received the thirteenth international computer championship, and Hydra is known because the most advantageous piece of chess hardware created, yet neither of those are available for commercial use. once you'll be studying a lot of video games or are a marginally sturdy participant then i'd get Fritz 9, in the different case follow Chessmaster X.

I've also wondered the same thing, so I researched it a while ago. Chessmaster appears to be in the lead for chess novices, whereas Fritz is the leader for those with a serious interest in chess. Chessmaster is like Dr. Ross Geller on Friends; fun with a subtle intellectual side. Fritz is like Ben Stein; very intellectual with a fun side.
