I went to a SBC church for 13 years and was very disheartened, everything was a corporation, an association, a business meeting and in this ministry I found that ministry came first not your marraige. The church I went to made a big issue about going to a business meeting (like you were going to burn in hell if you had to miss one) yet there were very rare and limited times of fellowhsips or care groups which in my opinion is MORE important than a business meeting that always is long and exhausting not to mention annoying and an infrigement on time exspecially when one has to get up for work the next day, are all SBC churches like this? I was glad to leave this church which in many ways was more like a business than a dwelling place for the Holy Spirirt? What is your take on this are all SBC churches like the one I described?

This does not discribe all Southern Baptist Churches. My Uncle is an ordained SB Minister. Money and business meetings are not his priorty. Leaving people with the Holy Spirit tugging at their souls is what he believes in.

All churches have to have monies to operate with, but it should never become the priority of a minister or congregation.

You just fell into a bad religious experience, please don't judge all SB Ministries by this unfortunate group. Matter of fact, your type of situation is why my Uncle became a minister himself. The church we belonged to before was like your bad experience. They all wanted to fight over power and money. My uncle had enough and went to Seminary School started his own church. It thrives on the Gospel not the wallet.

The SBC is better nowdays. There was a time when we were more "Legalistic" than we are now. Of course you have to realize that each congregation has its own "Personality". If you were to go back to that particular church it still may be like that. However, Many churches are loving and nurturing and wonderful place to worship God and study His word. I know my church is. We are just bursting with life and joy and each of the members is cared for and loved as a member of the family. We welcome outsiders with open arms and do mission and community outreach. We still have business meetings because we believe in complete honesty in our financial dealings and every penny is accounted for and copies are made available to all members. The meetings are not over long and rarely is there disagreement. I suggest you try again. Hopefuly you will find it for the better. Fortunately, there are lots of sbc churches so if you don't like one you can try another. hope this helps

Get out while you still can....if you are not connecting to the Holy Spirit in this church, let Jesus guide you to a church so that you can feel His presence. You are missing out on a lot.

If this congregation is more worried about the cares of this world and making the dollars and they don't keep their minds on God and put Him first, then slide right on out of there.

Not all SBCs are like that. I grew up in one and that's where I found and accepted Jesus as my personal saviour.

It all depends upon the leadership. If leaders follow the Scriptures, then it will be a caring church. Don't hang with a church for 13 years if you are not being fed the Word Of God.

A % of them are good and others have become to "worldly," thats when they start driving their members away...I belonged to one for years and after they did this more than half the members left. When God is not kept as the primary focus there will be problems & division in the body of believers. Always pray for Gods discernment in these matters. The churches are in His control. Disorderlyness & rigid business practices sometimes find their way in. Unfortunately this is part of life.....keep praying & hang in there, never give up ...God Bless you & your family..............<>< <><

It's a matter of keeping it open for people to see how money is used and decisions arrived at. Long with lots of votes but good.
Only once a year though.
Sounds like you'd like a good ol'e Pentecostal Church.

Not all of them are like that.

I intentionally seek out an SBChurch but make sure the pastor and folks really care about what God says in His Word and try to live out their faith.

Then relationships are real... struggling folks that live in gratitude and try to encourage one another daily in their walk with God and their love for the folks that walk this earth... the folks God laid down His life for.

I agree with you. It has been my sad experience that most are either vehicles of corporate greed, or extremist that I equate with the Muslim extreme groups. Anyone who is convinced they are so right they have no room for reason or disension is dangerous. Good luck in your new life and don't let any one experience sour you to new ones.

the only distinction i spotted replaced right into a observe on blasphemy. some Northern baptists had believed that in case you repented, your sin could be forgiven. I quite have talked to various southern Baptists that have self assurance in case you say "i do no longer think in God", you isn't forgiven, despite in case you repent later. there is not any going back, it is the unpardonable sin. Matthew 12 verses 31 and 32: “subsequently I say to you, each and every sin and blasphemy would be forgiven men, however the blasphemy against the Spirit should not be forgiven men. i replaced into taken aback to take heed to this from some Baptists in Virginia. on the same time as quickly as I did circulate to a Baptist church up North for a mutually as, i replaced into consistently advised: if repented, you're forgiven. I asked returned, and shown, Yep! in case you reject the holy spirit, in no way forgiven. Ever. Soo.. I asked them this: What if there's a action picture. each and every actor in the action picture is a real believer. in no way doubts for a 2d. One actor performs a "doubting Thomas" His lines in the action picture, he has to assert that he rejects the holy Spirit... however the actor himself does not doubt. those are in basic terms lines. the action picture is a harm fulfillment. It brings people to Christ in droves, saves hundreds of souls. Will that actor now circulate to hell? They could no longer answer me, and sat stumped for some moments. before long they replaced the communication subject remember with out answering. in spite of what you have self assurance, please understand WHY you have self assurance it. you have each and every precise to have self assurance in despite you do.. in basic terms please please please, understand WHY. Stuff like this don't have been a "stumpper". If those people I talked to had taken time to learn their ideals, they might have replied my question. i replaced into in basic terms disillusioned in them, because of the fact they believed with out question, that's risky. I wasn't finding for any particular answer.. however the shown fact that the concept stumped them, and that they did no longer understand their very own faith to no longer be stumped is what's frightening.
