When I lay on my back, I feel fine. But as soon as I start to fall asleep, I start to feel nauseated and if I don't roll over onto my side the feeling gets very intense, and I feel that I will throw up? What's the deal with that? It's been this way for years.

There could be several reasons for this so it would be best to see a doctor for a definitive diagnosis. Some reasons could be:
a hiatal hernia
GE reflux
improperly working stomach sphincter (valve)
problem with the CNS (central nervous system)

Since there are so many reasons, and this is not normal, it is imperative that you see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment, if necessary.
