Try giving them a bath and also put a damp rag on their forehead. Also, when using tylenol for a fever you are supposed to switch between tylenol and ibuprofen. Give the Tylenol every four hours and the ibuprofen every 8 hours. Hope that helps!

I agree with one of the previous posters. That's not a very high fever. Do what others have suggested - lukewarm bath, cool washcloth, lots of fluids, keep the child calm and comfortable. But less than 102 is, according to what the BC health guide says (local publication), not high. In fact, many resources recommend letting a fever under 102 just run its course.

Fevers happen for two reasons. The body might elevate its temperature to help itself fight off the disease. Or, the virus/bacteria causing the disease might cause the rise in temperature to help itself. Generally, it's a good idea to let the body try to fight using whatever it can (including temperature) unless the temperature gets high enough to be risky (over 102).

Hope that helps set your mind at ease! I'm not a doctor. If you're still concerned, call your doctor, or a nurses help line if you have one - don't trust the advice of unknown people with unknown backgrounds/intelligence.

Tylenol never worked for my children. Use an Ibuprophen: Either Children's Motrin or Advil. They work much better. If it still doesn't go down then pediatricians have told me to give Motrin, wait three hours and give Tylenol. Then give Motrin three hours after and keep alternating them until the fever drops. Give her/him popscicles, and a cool bath that is not too cold.

you can try using Advil to reduce the fever. if that doesn't help then you can always "piggy back" Tylenol and Advil...but never give the doses w/in 1 hr of each other and also make sure that you are giving the correct dosage for the child's age/weight.

as a rule of thumb if the fever is 101 or higher call the doctor no matter what time of night or day it is. you really want to watch the baths...they can contribute to the fever spiking higher sometimes (this has happened to my nephew.) you should also be very aware of the other symptoms he/she is having also. a fever is the body's way of combating infections but does need to be "controlled". i also found that generic brands do not always work as well as the name brand.

when you take his/her temp try to take it rectally for the most accurate (i have noticed about a degree of difference between the auxiliary and rectal temps at times)

i hope this helps.

relax. this fever isn't particularly high for a child of 3 yrs. more important is that you make sure the child doesn't become dehydrated. give the child lots of fluids, including popsicles. Tylenol can be given every 4 hrs. do not bundle the child -tshirt and socks w/diaper or panties are best. use a light blanket or sheet and let the child play in the bath.
if the fever goes above 103.6, add Motrin every 6 hrs.

How To Bring Down Fever

Looks like the two before me have the right idea!!(First two) You don't want the fever to get up to 103! If it does get them to the hospital quick! Some times it takes that Tylenol a while to work. The next dose give it to them about 1/2 an hour before the bottle says so it over laps and doesn't allow the temperature to spike back up!!

If it gets any higher you should call your child's doctor. In the meantime, you can try switching between tylenol and motrin. Give the medicines accordingly, using the motrin first and then the tylenol. This always works for my kids.
Let them run around in their diapers or take a cool bath, too.

This is about as plain and sinple as it gets. If the Tylenol or Motrin is not working, and if you have already tried the cool bath, fever has not broke yet, you need to get him/her to a doctor. Meaning there is something else going on with him/her, such as an ear infection or a virus.

some cool drink a cool colth on the head but what wroks the best is a nice relax playful bath in the tub. nice and cool or luke warm is the best not hot but warm enouhg that your baby is comfortable as the water well cool as she sits and plays with some toys. just gruadly slowly pour some bath water on her back and wet her hair and in a few mints might take up to 20 or 30 it well come down and if the fever comes back later she can go swimming ane playing in the tub again most kids love the water and it really helps .
