I posted a previous question regarding the nature of God and the nature of religion. Throwing out the hypothetical situation that God created religion as test.

We have so many religions that share a lot of the same principles. Fundamentally it all comes down to reliance on power outside the physical world and balance in this world and avoiding catastrophe through respect.

So maybe all religions are both true and false, niether good nor bad?

Please share your thoughts on this.

You've got very good eyes. All religions have some truth, and a lot of it is suspiciously similar to each other. Most importantly, they all have a "throw me" part- a part that is so stupid, it makes you throw the book away. The "throw me" parts are very holy, because they help make sure you won't just read about the experiences of others, and swallow them whole. Because unless and until you take the journey for yourself, see it all with your own eyes, and complete all the steps it takes to have eyes with which to see, you wouldn't be able to be happy in heaven even if you made it there. Jesus might be able to die for your sins, but even he can't take those steps for you. I like Buddhism because it teaches "Be a lamp unto yourself." You are encouraged to observe, and then belief is unnecessary because you know.

"God created religion as test". this is just one of an infinite number of philosophical arguments that can be made against christianity or any other organized religion. People want to prove evolution wrong so bad, but why? It wouldn't mean their religion is absolutely right about anything. We would be a lot better off if we concentrated on the similarities you mention and how they can help us make the world better, not about which is right.

Very true, religion is, by itself, neutral. It is we, the followers of whatever religion, that make judgements and perceptions about our own religion and others. Most people feel their religion is true (some say it is only true for them and what others believe to be true probably is for them and others say that even if others believe something else to be true only what they believe, exactly as they believe it, is true and everything else is false). And at the same time we also make judgements and perceptions about religion, religions themselves, and the followers of religion and those who do not subscribe to any religion as good or bad. In the end it's all just a matter of perspective and judgements made individually by all of us through our experiences and level of understanding of reality itself.

I have held the opinion for some time that all the modern main religions of the world are all based on much of the same "oral history/ legends" passed down in ancient times. There are so many things that they hold in common, it is likely they are all based in part on some of the same early teachings/ legends.

For example:

Mithra and Jesus
Noah's flood story and the greek flood story.
Satan giving man knowledge and Prometheus giving man fire.

Those are just three examples, but there are many more.

But, as you asked, they are just my thoughts.

The truth is one Krishna says in the Gita "When ever their is a decline in religious principals and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send my representative to reestablish the truth." So originally they are pure and true then man puts his filthy hands on the scriptures and misconstrues them. So God has to send another Representative or son or come Himself to reestablish the truth. It is simple for the simple. For the original new testament before king Constantine misconstrued so many things google gospelofthenazirenes.c For Universal truth and Vedic Understanding go to harekrishnatemple.c Read Bhagavad Gita as it is BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhuada

The truth that is in all religions has been called the golden thread. One must be open minded to see this as you have. However God is not in anything, everything is in God.

I'm personally just not religious. I don't have the need to know that there is some higher being. I like being human and having free will to do what I want. I don't need some book to tell me what my morals should be, because that's what morals are, ingrained sense of whats right and wrong.
But that's just me.

The warm and fuzzy "one God for all" regardless of what you believe has no basis. All religions are mutually exclusive. If you believe one you cannot believe them all. They were created that way on purpose.

I agree with you. People want to start arguments because they want, by nature, to control and dominate. that is why we have religious wars. If people would understand we can all share the same religious values without being the same.
