There's a good chance he could rip out his stitches.

YES its really that bad! He needs a bigger collar, or to have that one properly fitted if it's loose around his neck, because that collar doesn't fit him right. If you let him lick, he will rip out the stitches, and have a large open wound, and get an infection from the bacteria in his mouth.

Yes this is bad. He could open the stitches and cause the wound to open. By licking he could infect the incision which could also lead to worse medical scenarios. Give your vet a call and let them know what is going on. They have ointments that prevent the dog from wanting to lick incisions and perhaps a different neck cone that will keep him from being able to reach it.

Your puppy needs a bigger cone. If he licks his stitches, he could rip them and/or cause an infection. I would call your vet and see if they have a bigger cone for him.

I'm impressed that your puppy is actually wearing a cone! When we had our puppy spade, she didn't want ANYTHING to do with it! We kept a VERY close eye on her to make sure she didn't lick at her stitches.

Yes it is bad because if he starts biting himself, he can pull out the stitches.

Take him back to the vet and ask for a bigger collar.

I never put a collar on my puppy. She licked her stitches too. If it bothers her/him, she/he will stop.
