A traditional army could not attack the US.
A naval landing of that magnitude isnt realistic.
I suppose they could try some sorta fight thru alaska, but the idea of landing on the coasts lines is silly.
(assuming a china/russian attack)

Any country can be attacked. Hitler failed to cross the Channel because he failed to destroy the RAF. A shortsight on his part. Right now we have good relations with both of our neighbors. I never, ever see Canada trying to attack the US. They are way too mellow up there to do that. An attack from the south, while unlikely in the extreme, is the greater of the two possibilities. Someday, our rosy relationship with Latin America might decline a teeny bit. Say Mexico gets tired of our complaints about illegal immigrants and a militant President is elected down there. Then, say, the Latin American states form a union like Europe and consolidate their military into one huge body. Now, with these conditions met, there is a much larger threat of invasion from the south. Its conjecture, I agree, but military minded people plan for these kinds of eventualities.
9/11 was both an attack and a failure at the same time. I'm sorry, but flying a commercial airliner into a massive skyscraper for the purpose of killing Americans and toppling the building cannot be characterized as anything other than an attack (no matter how much you want to deny it). The failure belongs to the intelligence community for debunking the reports they had received from field agents and not passing the warning up the chain. It also belongs to the government in general for not seeing that eventually this might happen. (governments, regardless of political party, tend to believe that if you ignore something long enough it will go away).
Oh, and Hitler tried to cross the English Channel in 1940. By 1942, he was losing his marbles and focusing on North Africa.

USA has taken full dominance of North America. It has taken both shores, Atlantic and Pacific. And the two countries that surround it? Canada and Mexico? not even a threat... Generally, USA can be nuked, bombed and even experience guerrilla warfare. But An army? It would be difficult, a naval invasion can already be difficult and costly. Even if the army did make a beach head in America, its supplies would be most likely cut off by the US Navy. Shipping supplies in long distances are costly.
Since USA presently owns the most advanced military in the world, no one can conquer it easily...And other super powers out there are only close enough to send Ballistic Missiles.
If an invasion is to take place, a general must first make a place to make a command and supply center. One that the army could fall back to, resupply, and wait for the next shipment to arrive. Consider Canada, Mexico, or maybe South America first(if the invaders are not from the continent , lets face it, the countries in South America has no power to fight America). Like England or Japan, invasion is difficult as long as the country is surrounded by water.
For further success, sabotaging the radars, naval capacities, and Home Guard bases, via spies and commandos. Early Bombing of military concentrations are required. But throughout it all, there is no country out there with the funds to send an invasion force to the US. Except possible, a united Europe or a banded Asia.

911 was a failure on several fronts, several Presidents and above all, failed information from outside sources. Like the Attack on Pearl Harbor, No one thought the Japs had such a formidable army and navy. In fact, most people made fun of the little yellow guys with thick coke bottle glasses who were dumb. Then on Dec 7th, we found out the hard way the ways of the world. Sept 11th was a wake up call and we are not listening.
Hitler couldn't attack across 20 miles cause he did not have the resources. An invading army in the US could slip 11 million people across the boarders over several years and slowly stock and supply these people. Once they are ready, knock out power, communications and orchestrated attacks on military targets and they could control a lot more than you think.
The only thing that makes them wonder is in the south in in rural areas, MOST people have more than one gun and most of these people could, since they hunt in the woods around their homes, conduct a very effective guerrilla war against an opposing army.
Just a little something to think about when the media talks about Illegal immigration.

Who needs an enemy army to attack us when the mainstream media and ignorant politicians can lose a war for us? Case in point? Vietnam. And unless something changes, Iraq.
Time to wake up people. We need to ACT like we intend to win and quit whining about a frigging timeline. Do you think in 1944 people were setting a deadline to pull out of Europe? What about the Pacific in 1945? We just need to get the damn job done. And get it done right.

I don't think we're so worried about being invaded by a hostile army (maybe a hostile armee though...)
I think our biggest fear is that some radical Islam country like Iran will nuke us.
So 9/11 wasn't an attack? What was it then, a tea party?
