I am trying to convince a friend of mine to go and apply for food stamp assitance. She has a part time job and a baby on the way. She already has WIC but i think she is scared to go apply for the Food Stamps. It cant do anything but help with her food bill, if not pay the whole thing each month.

I know each state is different but how much each month would a person get for food assistance? (im looking to give her a range or ave.)

DAMN some of you people are just @$$-HOLES!

1- i am not supporting her finacially or buying her food. Nor is she asking me (or anyone else to)

2 - Where the father is has NOTHING to do with my damn question.

3 - She is doing the BEST that she can and she is not asking for help from ANYONE. She has been looking for a FT job but she wanted to finish school first. She is still in her first trimester and will be done with her degree before the baby is born.

This is her first child, first pregnancy, she is not stupid, dumb, ghetto, slacking, dead beat or anything like that. Just a person with failed birth control methods who has no support system around her because she is not from this state or area.

She is used to doing things on her own... I just want to show her that she does not have too.

So keep your Phucked up comments to your damn selves if you are not going to give me the answers i asked for!

She was raised in a upper middle class family (which is not around right now). It is more so she is unsure of the social services process and has never been exposed to anything like this before. It took a lot for her to buck up and go get WIC until i showed her an expired voucher that i didnt use when i was on it with my son. When she saw how much she could save with that (and get the stuff she eats the most) she went to sign up.

good_old_bastard: YOU HAVE GOT TO BE ****ING KIDDING ME! WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD YOU WANT TO FORCE SOMEONE TO MARRY SOMEONE?

the days of shotgun weddings and bullcrap like that have long been over.

Again. the status of the FATHER is neither here nor there. You dont know what her situation is so how are you going to judge someone and call her a selfish parent? You dont know if he is dead, in jail, or even if she was rapped and does not believe in abortion... so take your REPUBLICAN BULLSH*T AND SUCK ON IT

Since she is working part time i am sure she would qualify. In ohio for a single person household it is 155 (regardless of wic or not). Once the baby is born her household goes up to 204 (i think... i know its 2something).

When she goes to sign up she should also see about health insurance too. She is more likely to qualify because she is pregnant... actually that is who it is for in most states, pregnant women and children under the age of 18 or 19. There are specialized programs just for women and children. (im sure she will qualify because she does for WIC)

Depending on how far along she is, she may be able to get cash assistance. Most programs like that require that she goes through a job training program or something of the sorts to help become more self sufficiant. its like so many hours per week (and she can be working and that goes twards her 30 hours... the rest can be trainings for a better job or even job searching) Here in Ohio i think its called the welfare to work program. the max time limit is 36 months or something like that.

Each state is different so its all worth checking into and application can be done all at the same time.

and once the baby is born she can probably get a childcare voucher too.

If she is struggling... trust me... it helps... A LOT. Im clickable. feel free to email me.

Heck with the haters! We all pay into the system, if we have to take out every now and again so be it. My ex walked out on me when I was pregnant and I do not know what I would have done w/o WIC and Food Stamps. I would encourage her to apply. She is doing the best she can. And she cannot take proper care of her child if she is sick from malnutrition. And when she can get 100% back on her feet she can go back into paying into that system. There is no shame in asking for help. There is shame in not asking for help when it is there available. Oh yea, and I am in texas. I get around $250 or something a month for me and my 12 year old son.

It probably depends on how much money she makes and all, but since she is on WIC, her food stamps will be most likely reduced a bit. For people I have known (they were not on WIC though) that have been on them, it's around $150 a month--and that's 2 different states, it's probably the same everywhere. She shouldn't be embarrassed, they give you an "ebt" card that looks just like a regular credit card, no one will even know unless she tells them-- if that is what she is scared of.

My sister went for food stamps not that long ago and she was working as well but the father of her daughter was not giving her child support at all.
She would get almost 200 dollars each month in stamps for her and her daughter.
It helped her out so much and if your friend needs it then she should apply for it. Tell her to call and ask about it. The only thing that they could say to her is she is ineligible.

If you're friend has a baby on the way she needs to have a FULL TIME job. How do you expect to work part time and support any child? She doesn't even have the kid yet and can't work 40 hours a week?

On top of all of that, she needs to make a feasible attempt at taking responsibility to provide for the child on the way! I don't understand society, I swear!

You can apply for WIC when your only pregnant and in fact don't have a child, or if this her second one?

Update 1:50 AM - Thank you for getting angry because you just proved my point. Anyone that has a baby on the way needs to put school on hold and PROVIDE for the security of that baby, not finish school and mooch off the government of a selected state or perhaps the federal system. I don't care how the circumstances happened, I am just telling you anyone who has a child on the way and only has a part time job, better have some other form of income, or the end result will be WIC or Independence card, food stamps etc.

When you ask a question on yahoo answers you are going to get a whole plethora of responses. Food stamp is a buzz word in society that signals poor 99% of the time. I understand things happen in life that people can't prevent but your reaction is really immature and I hope you never procreate :o)

Depends on what she makes, how much her bills are and how many people are in her household. She can easily get over $100 a month. That should help her quite a bit. If she is embarrassed, remind her it is to help her baby and it's not something she will have to do for the rest of her life.

My daughter is working full time and makes around $1400.00 a month. She gets around $350.00 in food stamps every month for herself and her three children. It helps her out allot. They go by your income and take into account your rent and utilities ect. They generally figure around $100.00 per month per person. They will also help her with payment of daycare! Getting help with these two items often makes the difference between just getting by each month or being able to have a have a little money to put aside for savings or outings!!

It really depends on how much she makes a month. It's a sliding scale. She can find out from the WIC office, they will help her. She may also qualify for medicaid if she's not on it already. She can just ask at the WIC office and they will help her with the paperwork or direct her to the right place to go.

It can range from $10 to a couple hundred.
good luck

I understand why she doesnt want to get the food stamps, it's embarrassing because people sometimes think they will be judged for that, for not being successful, for not being able to afford things and such, it's like asking your parents for help when you know you really dont want to. When I was in college I felt like "omg I am applying for foodstamps, I have nothing" but in the long run I finally realized how much money I saved doing that. It helps out ALOT. It is not embarrassing to say "okay I want free food so I can save more for my baby and I" It's so helpful and I hope everyone who can get them applies for them. I am a big coupon saver and clearance/sale shopper now. There is nothing wrong with getting free food. Explain to her how much she can save because of it and how much it can help. Tell her how much it will save her.
