As many have already stated, not all Christians think that Dungeons and Dragons is Satanic. Those who do are a small minority. There is some controversy among some Christians, though, that was initially incited by some sensationalized stories of unstable individuals allegedly committing suicide because of the game's negative influence on them.
That said; from my experiences growing up in the sort of Christian community that does think D&D is Satanic, I can tell you the following:
- Some fundamentalist Christians associate D&D with the occult. D&D is a game which involves imagined sorcery, and some forms of sorcery are clearly forbidden by some of the authors of the Bible in some passages. Some misinformed Christians believe that D&D involves minor forms of real practice of sorcery, but others simply believe you shouldn't spend your time on anything which idealizes or glorifies what they perceive to be witchcraft or worship of false gods, even if it is just pretend.
- Some Christians have the perception that D&D often involves gratuitous imagined violence and sex. They'll say many D&D sourcebooks contain references to cannibalism, sadism, torture, etc. They may not realize that this depends completely on who is playing, because the people playing the game define the content. But the point is that they believe faithful Christians will not pollute their minds with impure thoughts of violence and sex.
- Some other Christians will simply go so far as to say that the degree of immersion in fantasy that makes D&D so popular is harmful. Better to keep your head in reality, where the battles of good vs. evil really matter, they'll say.
- Many Christians (accurately) believe that some of the fictional monsters players fight in Dungeons & Dragons are imagined demons from hell. They're not too fond of taking the subject of demons (something very real to them) lightly in a game, even if it is all a fiction.
- There are more Christians who believe that D&D is not beneficial and that it's potentially harmful for the above reasons than there are Christians who believe it's literally Satanic. But for those who do believe it's really Satanic, all of this above can come together with a belief that demonic spirits seeking to corrupt youths will be present when the above things are casually toyed with. Some Christians fear the demonic influence.
- As some have said, dragons are in some cases equated with evil in the Christian mythos. This may be a factor for some but I doubt it's a very common reason. The above reasons are much more likely.
I've included some online articles that are relevant. Some of these (such as the one at Chick.com; Chick Publishing is known for being particularly extreme, and most even conservative Christians find them offensive) are more extreme than is normal, but they give you the idea.

The satanic link came in the 70s when during a murder investigation it was noted that the murderer played D&D. This was picked up by the media outlets and quickly spread. It was then fashionable to look for the media to look for this link in other cases. Religious zealots then took the link and exploited it for attention, linking the game to satanic worship. The same thing happened to heavy metal music.
The symbology of D&D is what allows people to make the connection. There are pantheons of many gods and some zealots see that as idol worship. There is magic and wizardry, which were connected to black arts from demon worship stemming back to the dark ages and middle ages. There are also dragons which are used in the bible to represent satan in the Book of Revelations and St. George is a saint because he slew a dragon. There are also many things associated with druidism and other heretical worship.

Well in the first place it is written at the Bible in Revelations that Satan appeared as a dragon with 10 horns, this perhaps influenced Christians perception of a dragon as a symbol of Satan. In contradiction, Christians don't label dragons as satanic inspite Christian children used to imitate dragons seen on movies.
Dungeons portrayed as undergruond prison itself, tracing back history in the Crusade times where prisoners or captives are junked in prisons only shows an intensive punishment to this prisoners believed as sinners. Therefore dungeons are viewed as satanic because sinners, non Christ believers need punishment as what is observed in dungeons.

I've heard this same thing, but I never learned to play D&D to know what the big deal was all about. However, a long time friend of mine used to play D&D in high school. He said it's a role playing game. I don't see any harm in that, no matter what it is. As long as people don't actually fight and kill for real, all is cool. It's fiction, everyone knows that, so even if it has dragons and spells, so what? We know it's a GAME. Chinese New Year has dragons, and we know those are fake too, big deal. Fiction people, it's called fiction.
The few nut cases who do take it too far need some sirrus he'p.

Woah, I almost thought you were my BIL... My husband and I werent saved when we got together, and the MAJORITY of our time was spent at my husbands twin brothers house with his wife playing D&D. I loved it, it was awesome!! So when my husband got saved and we started going to church, we still were playing, but werent sure wheather we should or not. We asked around no one gave us a for-sure answer. So we really looked into it... Our reasons are...
A)It takes up ALOT of time that could be spent reading the bible, giving the gospel, ect... Its very very time consuming...
B) The witchcraft. The bible says we shall not suffer a witch to live... Its all majic, fighting, witchcraft, ect. My character was a necromancer... That is just not right...
There are many many other reasons why you shouldnt play it as a christian, little things that I could go on and on about, but those are the main two. Good luck!

Yeah. When your the "Dungeon Master." No, seriously I think high fantasy is pretty cool nowadays. In fact, they have these, RP, um..get togethers. They even have charts and it's good to let out a bit of fun. Hell, I'd dress up as a Greek Soldier if I could ever find the damn costume!(LoL) It's cool. Oh, you might have trouble with the athiest playing with you, since they don't believe in gods and fairys and stuff. I played with one and he wouldn't role the dice because "He didn't believe in them."

What is the game all about? Role playing killing right?
Read Philippians 4:8--the admonition of Paul--...true, honest, just, lovely, good report, virtue... sorry D&D doesn't match any of these things.
I've been addicted to stuff like this. Besides it takes up a lot of time that could be better spent. I know satan uses it to affect you for the worse.
