I just got married during my R&R leave from Iraq. My wife is really sad that i have to leave so soon and it will be a while till we see each other again since our unit is sure to be extended a few more months. I decided to call Delta and delay my flight back to Atlanta for 5 days. Now i feel like a complete **** head. Will the Army give me a lot of **** for this? Can anyone with this kind of experience give me some advice

If you have to ask it makes me wonder if you are really serving on active duty.

Yes, you're in trouble.

yes, there will be consequences for your actions. It is your job to follow orders, that's how sevice people are trained. One thing you might possibly have in your favor, which by no means implies that there will not be some sort of disciplinary action, but you are in a time of war. It is hard enough to get young men and woman to enlist as it is, so you may be fortunate in that sense and have to give up some rank / pay/ do extra duty....it won't look good on your service record. And at this point you owe it to the Armed Forces to stick your career out for the long haul especially if they go light on your sentencing.

My neighbor had a mix-up with the airline and missed his flight. The Army was understanding and even let him stay another week to be there when his wife gave birth to their 3rd child.

But you just flat didn't go back? You're AWOL, now, big guy. Way to go. Every wife is really sad that their husband has to leave from R&R, but there's nothing you can do. Get your butt to your rear detachment and beg them to put you on the next flight out.

Yup, you bet you will be in a lot of trouble. Don't know exactly what is going to happen, but you are AWOL during time of war?... yeah, that is bad...
