According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the type of reflux you are describing comes from more than one cause. First the digestive system is weak. The energy (or qi (pronounced chee)) of the Spleen (a digestive organ in TCM) is responsible for separating the clear of the food from the turbid. The stomach is the pot which holds the food and allows the Spleens energy to perform it's magic. When one puts oily food into the stomach, the nature of the food is difficult for the Spleen's qi to transform and transport; the food is too heavy, or damp in the nomenclature of TCM, for the qi of the Spleen to effectively seperate the clear from the turbid. The second part is stress. Stress is usually perceived as frustration, which is a type of anger. As this anger builds, it causes stagnation to occur in the liver, which is the organ that anger resonates mostly with. The anger of the liver can easily invade into the digestive system, especially when it's qi is weak. When the liver overcontrols the digestion, acid reflux is one of the manifestations that is often seen clinically.

There's definitely a relationship between acid reflux and stress - reduce stress, because it increases the amount of stomach acid and reflux.
Stress can affect the movement of food through the digestive system. If it lingers in the body to long it can enhance the effects of reflux
* Avoid eating at least 2-3 hours before bed.
* Avoid high-fat foods.
* Avoid coffee, soda and alcohol .
* Avoid smoking
You should most likely go see a gastroenterologist for your symptoms.
