I have many friends that work there, if you are going to shop there most of the older vehicles are rip offs because Carmax buyers are not mechanically inclined. So they buy their cars for too much to begin with then they put tons of money into them. They do back up what they sell, the warranties are great and the car is usually good quality. But the employees I know buy their cars other places because even with the employee discount the employees can buy a car cheaper brand new, somewhere else.
My employee Friends have seen, frame damaged, and flood damaged cars make it to the front lot. Any car that has a clean carfax will be sold at carmax, unless it has too many miles. Good luck with your shopping

RE:
Does Carmax sell good used cars?
I see the commercials all the time and i was just wondering. I went on their website and their cars seem kind of high priced to me. They had a 1998 Ford Econoline 150 van for $10,000 bucks! $10,000 bucks for a car that's almost 10 years old? Are they nuts?

yes they do, i own a shop, and i have inspected some of the ones they have sold, and there real good vehicles, they go over them really well, and repair most all the small things that's wrong with them, usually a car wont pass there inspection if it has a lot of miles on it,they just wont accept many high mileage vehicles, but they do sell really good vehicles, good luck i hope this helps.

sounds to me like you have already anwered your very own question ----- ____ NO THEY SELL CARS THAT came out of the New Orleans flood and whatever else they can find -- like rental cars and lease cars and other ........ just keep smiling and don't ever buy a car there ======= avoid the lots unless you want new and then make them take the best deal that you dream up or go to another dealer and start over 'til you get the car and the price that is what you want and not what some salesman duped you into paying for and not to your exact specifications.......... good luck

I think it is a great place. The prices on some vehicles are high, but they check everything and put it into consideration. Whats also good is they transport them from different stores.

Carmax is a ripoff.
Their no-pressure, no-haggle, non-commission selling is for girls who can't negotiate worth a damn.
I'd rather negotiate for couple of hours and buy it for thousands less.
