my mother and I!!! What's the deal? He obeys my father, but runs all over both my mother and me. All my father has to do is holler at him, or barely look or say anything to him, and the dog automatically knows to straighten up! Both my mom and I can get firm with him, holler at him and what have you and he STILL pays NO attention to us! I must admit though out of the three of us I'm the only one that really shows him any affection as far as playing with him and spending time with him, and I will admit that I honestly think he's spoiled (by me). What can we do? Is there something that my father is doing that my mother and I aren't doing? Give me your thoughts!! Thanks!

He respects your father and feels he is someone to obey. You spoil him, and give him no guide lines and no rules, he sees you at very least as his equal, doesn't feel that he needs to respect you.

It is actually quite simple and right in front of you. Dad is alpha. You may have spoiled him, feed him, etc, but Dad has always been the one who says what goes and what does not. Your dog has got you and mom right where he wants you all lol. Start spending more time with him alone - walks or something away from the house - out of that environment. YOU be the one away from the house that tells him to sit, obey etc. Once you have that down away from the house ask your father to help out by not interfering, and begin the same thing in the yard, and slowly into the house. Your father must be a neutral party during this - no input whatsoever. The dog is there to obey you. Eventually you will see a change. He will still respect your father, but you as well. You have to become an alpha figure.

Yes, in the dog's mind the pack order is as follows: #1-dad #2-dog #3 and 4-you and your mom. He runs all over you because he was able to get away with it when he was a pup, and now he thinks he is dominant over you, which will make it harder to break. It takes more than yelling, there's nuances of body language and tone of voice when it comes to establishing dominance with a dog. Dogs are not people, you need to read up on dog psychology. Cesar Milan (the dog whisperer) is a good place to start.

Your father is the alpha in the house. Your dog treats you and your mom like litter mates. You must be the one in charge. Playing is great, but you must stop the playtime. Basically your dog has no respect for you and feels you are equal. You need to show him/her that this is not the case. You go throught the door first, he sits to get fed, he must listen to you or you ignore him. Remember they are like toddlers and will be fresh if negative behaviors are allowed or you do not show them (and i hate to use this term) whose boss

Who feeds the dog? That person is Alpha in your dogs pack. If you want to obey you, you alone must give him food and take it from him to show him you are alpha.

Insist on going out a door first. Take YOUR place on the sofa and make him move over. Sit on him if he just lies in your place. That's what an alpha dog would do.

Take him to a training session.

My dog only listens to me and doesn't really listen to either of my parents. It doesn't make any sense to me, because I spoil him all the time. He really shouldn't listen to me at all.

Sometimes dogs will only respect a certain gender. I have a friend with a dog, and it only likes her and her mother. Whenever her older brother tries to pick her up, she snaps and bites at him. Maybe that's the case with your dog?
