Please don't use Accent! That is mono-sodium glutamate, and is TOXIC to dogs. Two spoons will kill a medium sized dog.
the stuff that you want is Adolf's Meat Tenderizer, (which is actually papaya extract plus preservatives) or pineapple chunks.
Dr. George Schwartz,
toxicologist and author says two
tablespoons of MSG on a piece of bread
will kill a medium-sized dog in minutes.

I sure don't know why people get them confused. I hope they don't give MSG their own dogs.
Here is a good site with more tips for fixing the problem> http://www.diamondsintheruff.com/poopeating.html

This is a common problem. Most dogs will eat cat feces or horse manure. One of the Southwestern Indian Tribes called them sh**eaters not dogs, that was their word for dog. What I have heard that may stop this is to give the dogs that meat tenderizer in their food, I think a 1/2 teaspoon per cup of food. There is other stuff you can buy at the pet store. Some dogs eat their own.

Just patience, finding him doing it, don't ever rub his nose in it or anything though. There are always people arguing over why dogs do this, one reason people say is they are smelling undigested food in the feces. Others say it's territorial. There are so many possible reasons. It's completely normal, they even have a name for it.

if your dog is defecating on the floor and then eating it, your dog is trying to get rid of the evidence. House breaking should be started all over again with a new approach. dogs will also eat it if they are lacking something i their diet try switching dog food. you can also get a package of powder from a vet clinic to sprinkle in the dogs food. it makes the pooh taste awful and will discourage your dog from consuming it. the name for this behavior is called corpography but i don't know how to spell it correctly.

Why? because it's a dog. People will tell you it's a nutrient deficiency, but that's only rarely the case. Usually, it's just that dogs like poop (and other nasty things like rotting deer carcasses). This is a very common behavior. You can try adding Ac'cent (msg-you find it by the spices at the grocery store) or a commercial product like For-bid to your mother dog's food to alter the taste of the poop, or keep your dog on a leash at potty time so he can't get to it.
Yup, it does have a name-coprophagia

I caught my dog doing this the other day and I was told that it was because when they were puppies they would eat their own poo to hide the evidence so they wouldn't get shouted at (presumably before they were properly house trained), I have no idea how to stop this from happening though - just don't let it lick your face afterwards!!

There is something in your dog's diet that he is not getting, but he can smell it in another dog's droppings. Try changing his food and maybe give him some doggie vitamins.
