hand-eye cordination, sharing (if peers are involved), colors, shapes, oposites (big/ small, out/in), you can use dolls to teach them thrie body parts, dolls can also be used to teach about caring for a baby if a sibling is on the way, etc

Toys help with a variety of developmental milestones for a child, as I'm sure you know. I found the "keep kids healthy" site is a good web site for answering your question. The web address is below. Fischer Price also had a good answer and I've also included their web site.

Play is very important to little minds - I really view it as their "work" - pretend play, letter and number recognition, shape and color recognition, etc are all important skills that toys help develop. Motor skills, both large and small, are also helped with playing with toys.

I hope this helps - good luck to you.

Lisa, this is just stuff I noticed when our boys were little and a few things I remember reading. They get a lot out of feeling, chewing on, you name it, toys and that develops their sense of touch. Also, say a toy car rolls, they make it move, they understand what one is more when they see the real thing. I think it makes more sense, it's not so abstract. Some things are cuddly and soft some smooth and hard, some bend, roll, spin. It exposes them to all these different sensations and I think it helps them sort things out. Just my observation. Plus, it's fun, that's worth a lot right there.

Toys help children develop their senses and stimulate their brain. They learn shapes, colors, the alphabet all sorts of things. If a child were to just sit there all day with no stimulation like blinky lights, music or anything....they probably wouldn't learn much.

helps motor skills, helps them learn about how a car or train runs, helps them interact with other children. My son loves the thomas the tank engine toys, and on the trains there are numbers, so he learns his numbers, learns that trains go on tracks, caterpillars can go anywhere. He learns that trains can be mean at the begining, but they always apologize at the end?
