Depending on your personal interests, some of the things to do to unwind at night, before going to bed, would be:
read a book (that is not scary) such as light fiction, jokes, comics, word puzzles, romance;
do a crossword puzzle or sudoku or other such games that you like;
watch a movie or a game that you like (on TV);
chat with a loved one or children;
have a glass of warm milk;
talk to a good friend or relation on phone for a short while; read a book on religion or spirituality; etc.
You can also try doing the 'corpse pose' of yoga which would relax you and give you peace.
Avoid stressful thoughts and don't dwell on annoying problems.
Edit: If you are interested in music, listen to some soothing music.

We all know what the best thing is to unwind,but we really do not want to relax and unwind.It's a sign of the times.We stress out and drink caffeine all day,smoke cigs,and then we wonder why???can't we sleep or unwind.Hot bath with candles and a couple of glasses of Merlot should do the trick.Light the candles cuz you must watch the flicker of the fire.that's part of the therapy.Instead of wine you can have
warm sleepy time tea.
