Wow. The hives sound like an allergic reaction and the tatoos may be triggering the reaction some how. I understand that MRI (magnetic resource imaging) is suppose to be painful if you have a tatoo, so maybe your around some kind of electro magnetic power source so maybe it's electrical. Maybe try taking some benedryl to bind the histimines and see if that clears them up after a day or two. Also, hydrocortisone creams may work.
Good luck to you!

That happens to me, but only where the tattoos are coloured blue. The tattoos it effects are 25 years old. All the new ones i have got in the last 4 months are fine. So it might be in the ink that was used at the time.

You might be allergic to the ink that was used, if I were you I would go get a complete physical, and ask your doctor why he thinks you might be getting it only on the tattoo spot, this kind of stuff happens, sometimes by my bikini area I have a butterfly with different colors in it, and get like a little rash around from time to time...Some colors don't go with your chemistry...

Maybe you're allergic to the dye- it breaks down after a while if it's not done properly. Or maybe the skin there is more sensitive to something now b/c the tattoo is there- is it in a place where the edges of your clothing rub or have u started using a new laundry product or soap/lotion/perfume?
