we have had her since she was about 10 weeks. she was inside untill she was about 6 months & my landlord had a cow b/c of what she is and made me keep her outside. she is now 19 months and i purchesed my home. we have taken her back inside, but she barks & some times growls at strangers. can i resocilize her at the age or is it too late? she is great with the whole family, even my 3 small kids. we never let her chew on anyone or play rough since we'v had her, but i think being outside in the kennle for so long messed her up. she is an american bulldog. thank you for your help. :)

Take her to some one on one obedience classes to start and work with the trainer about when and how to introduce her to other people and other animals. If you are unable to do that, perhaps you could consult with a trainer to have her temperament tested and get some tips on how to socialize her. It's best if someone with knowledge of the breed and skill at handling them help you with this by evaluating your dog, firsthand. Your dog may do fine.

She may see new people, my dog did that when my dog came to live with me in my apartment. He wouldn't get aggressive but he would bark at anything and everything that walked past the windows (we live on the ground floor) he would also bark whenever the front door (the one everyone comes through to go to their apartment) and that would get my dog going, but now they both are quiet and aren't to concerned the anyone else. Eventually your dog will calm down it's a new place give it time.

It is never too late to socialize a dog. Most can be done with discipline both for you and for the dog. Take your pup to obedience classes, there are alot of other people and dogs at this which will give her a chance to become more social and she will be learning alot of other good stuff.

no time like today. you made a mistake here ,
you should have done this along time ago. take her fo a walk and let people get near her, not to close she may bite ,just to let her see that not evry one is a killer , give her a treat when she start to listening to you , she want to please so let her ,take your time and build up to this ,
her barking is just a warning , to back off you mite need to muzzle her till you feel you can trust her,and let the lead off a little , she will feel much better

Oh, not at all!

I recommend taking her out to the park, school playgrounds, a McDonald's Playland... anywhere that you can find small children or senior citizens for her to nibble on!

Just remember, the fun will only last up until she's shot down by the local police, so get out you FunSaver camera for those wonderful Kodak moments of neighbors getting mauled. Ah... memories that last a lifetime!

Never too late, but be careful, restrictive and on gaurd. It is always a good thing to socialize at ever age. Just know your dogs limits.
Happy training!!

its possible, get a book on it, or take her to dog training classes if she is ok around other dogs and people outside the home.
