Check these places to see if they need volunteers: zoos, libraries, local aquarium, hospitals, Domestic Abuse Shelter, Salvation Army, local CASA or Guardian Ad Litem program, United Way, Red Cross, read the local paper and see if there are any places needing volunteers. Volunteer with school to teach reading.

I suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They have great one-time or short-term volunteer opportunities and can connect you with projects that match your interests. In addition, they can also provide you with a connection to other local non-profit agencies that are in your area for longer-term projects.
Here are some links to help you find your local volunteer center:

Through my volunteer center, I've worked on a variety of projects mentoring children, serving food to the homeless, cleaning up parks and beaches, and a lot of other fun stuff. Most of the projects are flexible and worked great with my busy schedule.
Good luck!

Contact your local hospital. They have various departments that utilize volunteer services. They can match you up with the department that will be most beneficial from the skills you possess.

You can also do it online, and in many ways. Example, write essays that would help others to be of charity and share your goods to your neighbors in a good way. This is the extent of my answer since your question doesn't specify more things.
