Funny thing is Ive been having the same problems. Every time I bit down on anything sugary like gum or candy of any texture it really made my teeth achy. Cold not as bad but a little.
I asked my Dentist. She said also its sensitive teeth. She also told me to try just a plain regular toothpaste. Nothing fancy, NO total colgate, NO whitening, nothing but a regular plain toothpaste with nothing else added. The fancy ones can promote your tooth sensitivity. Also, do try the sensitive toothpaste for a little while but that toothpaste does have a different texture and taste wierd too and I dont personally like it.. but it works.
You really dont need to get coatings etc. Just try the above and youll see a huge difference in just days....I did.
OMG! that sounds like an infomercial...haha
Good luck!

I'm a dentist.

Sugar and cold stuff shouldn't make your teeth hurt. Pain caused by cold or chemicals is often indicative of some sort of exposure of the dentin underneath the enamel. This can be caused by tooth decay or a fracture, or perhaps receding gums.

See your doctor to have it evaluated.
