First off, please don't put your sore, cracked feet into anything with lemon and salt in it! Think about the idea of lemon juice on a paper cut, or the saying "rub salt in his wounds". Bad and painful connections there.

And second, if you don't have callouses, don't heed the pumice/callous advice here. It could damage your skin or spread infection that you have to treat in another way as well. If you do just have callouses, by all means use the pumice.

But many people have cracks in the skin of their feet without callouses. This can be from dry skin (in which case it may be too sensitive to use pumice or abrasive metal) or even athlete's foot.

The best information on cracked heels that I could find is here:
http://www.epodiatry.com/cracked_heels.htm
but you can also check out information on athlete's foot here http://www.drfoot.co.uk/athletes%20foot.htm , because if that's the problem, you have to treat it to cure your condition.
Some other possibilities are discussed here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/ask_the_doctor/feetcracked.shtml
and there's a personal anecdote about a cracked feet cure here:

Since there are several reasons why your feet may be cracked, I hope you can identify the problem and find the proper answer and care in one of these places. Good luck!

my dad had huge, deep cracks on his feet. Because he would always be barefoot outside while working in the yard and garden. I mean these cracks looked like the the Grand Canyon. He is diabetic now and has to take better care of his feet. He saw a podiatrist 3 years ago for foot care advice. She told him to always wear socks and shoes outside. In the house always have socks or slippers on. When he was in the house for several hours at a time and right before he went to bed or while he was settling down for the night, he is to rub Vaseline on the bottom of his feet and put on 100% cotton socks. His put Vaseline on the entire heel and achilles area, the entire bottom of the foot, on the big toe and between the toes because sometimes he would get cracks between them. After 2 months of doing this you could see a big difference. After 7 months his feet were crackless. Of course he has to take extra care of his feet because he is diabetic. But he only put Vaseline on the bottom at night before he goes to bed. He said it took a while to get use to wearing socks to bed but after a few months he didn't feel them on anymore.

If you try Vaseline for a while and it doesn't work, maybe you can call a podiatrist's office to ask for an over-the-counter lotion. Or if your cracks are real deep or if you are having pain, you should see a podiatrist. Good luck!

you need to do a few things.. first off.. soak your feet for about 5 minutes to soften the calluses (hard parts of your heels) use a callous remover (looks like a small cheese grater in the nails section at store) after that you should moisturisze exttra well (if you can stand it wear sock to bed over heavy foot cream) My feet are very prone to craking to the point that htey HURT.. this really does work.. but you have to use the callous remover once a week and keep your feet moisturized.

put either eucerin cream (the heavy kind) or vaseline on your feet, then put clean socks over them. Keep your socks on when you sleep, and do this for several days. Your feet are probably cracking because you don't keep them moisturized or you wear flipflops and other feet-exposing shoes constantly. If you don't want your feet sticky and slippery at night, you can always wear sneakers for a while. That always works.

bath and body works has a product called heel of approval that is a really good lotion for your feet. soak them in water and scrub them with a pumice stone, then dry and slather with the heel of approval and put on socks. do this right before bed and leave the socks on until morning. (it works pretty much the same with any lotion but ones with shea butter are better and the thicker the better on the lotion)

At the drugstore they should have "Jim's crack creme" or something with the phrase "crack cream" in it. It will be with the foot solutions (powers insoles, etc) or the lotion.
Watch out for any sharp instrument. If these aren't cleaned you can breed infection by cutting into the non-feeling calous and inserting bacteria into a buffet of dead skin.

Try a pumice stone. They're these grey foamy blocks that you can buy at a skin care store for fairly cheap. You scrub it on the bottom of your foot. Also, you can use this salt stuff that rubs away the dead skin.
