Recently I was struck badly by an auto. In the teaching of the early fathers ofthe Orthodox Church, they insist that there is no such thing as a pure "accident" or injury, that all injuries, illnesses, are foreseen & permitted by God with His consent. I was injured so badly by the car, so gravely, even to the point of a heart attack caused by the loss of blood & the stressful shock to my heart. I now have 1/3 living cardiac muscle & 2/3 dead scar tissue. My life now will be a daily torment of heart failure & severe edema in my tissues. I can barely walk from the pain.in my limbs.
I ask Christians of any church to answer me: Am I not right to feel and believe that Jesus permitted this car to strike me as a punishment, as His way of showing His displeasure with my conduct??? Why did my guardian angel abandon me??? I crossed legally and was struck without mercy by a 19 yr old driver with a revoked license. Perhaps if I had been more devout-then Jesus might have spared me.? Reply,

The belief was common in Jesus' time. In the case of "the man born blind," Jesus ATTACKED the supposition that it happened because of evil by him or his parents.

John 9:1 As Jesus went along, he saw a man who was blind. He had been blind since he was born. 2 Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned? Was this man born blind because he sinned? Or did his parents sin?”
3 “It isn’t because this man sinned,” said Jesus. “It isn’t because his parents sinned. This happened so that God’s work could be shown in his life. 4 While it is still day, we must do the work of the One who sent me. Night is coming. Then no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 After he said this, he spit on the ground. He made some mud with the spit. Then he put the mud on the man’s eyes.
7 “Go,” he told him. “Wash in the Pool of Siloam.” Siloam means Sent.
So the man went and washed. And he came home able to see.

Danny: Firstly; God is in the saving business not the punishing business - this is why He allowed His Son, Jesus Christ to die for the sins of all humans ever born. Next; God does not intervene into the affairs of humans unless it promotes His Devine Plan for all humans incorporated from the initial creation of the Universe to the demise of this "space ship" we call Earth. Don't feel bad - Jesus Christ - the Son of God, never - ever - committed one single, solitary sin and was lied about and murdered ! Bad things do happen to good people, as well as, bad people too. There are thousands of Christians each year, martyred around the world for their beliefs. No - God is not "picking" on them - people who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ are !!!

This car accident was not your fault and it is not a punishment. God loves you. The person who struck you chose to drive even tho he was not supposed to. The driver made the bad choice which caused you to be injured. When others make bad choices that effects others it is not the fault of the victim. I will pray for you, for the Lord to heal you and guide you. God Bless.
