I have a house trained dog in a household of females. It is a foster home and I'm searching for adoptive parents. A couple came to see him and and within a few minutes the dog went over and marked the man. I have had other male guests in the house and not had this problem before. Did the dog like them or not?

It was a short visit. There was no growling. There was not even much playing prior to the marking..it was just a few sniffs and then...mark! Then on about his business as if nothing happened. The woman was more interested in getting a dog and the man was very passive about the process.

Well, it could be two things, He could be marking the man because he feels that he is more dominant than the man... Or he could be marking him as his own. What else did he do while they were there?

My brother dog would pee on all kinds of people. The vet told him it was a dominance thing and had something to do with the scent of a female dog being in heat....sorry can't remember all the details but I do know he stopped after he was neutered.
