I had the surgery a year ago. Although the pain in my legs has gone away, it seems as if I still have the same amount of pain/stiffness in my back.

I have never been a fan of back surgery. I suggest you keep shopping until you find a doctor who will get you a temporary back brace and get you on an exercise program. (I know it sounds impossible to exercise with the pain but it will get better.) The brace and exercise will end the pain and get you up and about. At least try it before agreeing to any further surgery. You have nothing to lose but your pain.

Some physical therapy clinics have aquatic therapy programs so that exercising is easier. Plus the PTs can give you ideas for exercises, ergonomics, body mechanics etc. . . that can help you out in everyday function.
