I want to lose a lot of weight. I hate the way I look. I have a low active thyroid. I can't find a diet that works for me. I look 6 months pregnant. Can anyone relate?

If you have a low active thyroid, you need to treat it! That's part of the reason you are overweight!! And don't let any doctor put you on Synthroid or Levoxyl, which are T4-only meds and WILL leave you hypo. Instead, get on Armour, which is desiccated thyroid, and gives you exactly what your own thyroid gives you--T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. Your doctor can regulate your thyroid levels. I do not have a thyroid thanks to surgery & I have taken synthyroid for 26 years - it helps. I lost 72 pounds last year from a size 16 to a size 6 in 8 months. No drugs or trying to cheat - there is only 1 way to lose weight & keep it off. I only eat when I am hungry - not because I am bored, not because someone else is eating, not because the clock says it is mealtime, & certainly not because I am unhappy. In the beginning, it was hard to break bad habits but now I do not notice the clock or runfor comfort foods. As I lost weight the easier to walk & exercise. Now sports alone keeps me fit.
Good luck - you can do it. Do not try to do it for someone else or for society. Just yourself. Imagine your new clothes.

I have the same problem. My stomach was huge, about the size of a six month pregnancy due to large fibroids I had. I've recently had a hysterectomy and my stomach is a lot smaller. I'm exercising regularly and drinking green tea and lots of water. It's working although progress is slow and I am also dieting. You have to keep in mind that you didn't gain weight over night so you can't lose it over night. It takes time. Give up bread, fried foods and eating after 7 p.m. Also sweets like cake and pies, cut them out of your diet. In the morning I have two boiled eggs and 5 large strawberries instead of fried or scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage, which is how I used to eat. Try a wheat cereal like shredded wheat, and snack on carrots (raw) and celery. Take long walks when you can and cut out sugary drinks. I'm trying to lose exactly 50 pounds as well. I wish us both luck!

It depends on what thyroid medication you are on. If you are on T4, then its very important to get the MORNING TSH to around 1.0. Once at 1.0 for a while try reducing carbs and exercise and it should help. If it doesn't, then its time to try a thyroid medication like Armour. A good way to lose weight is...
1. Exercise like on the treadmill or on your legs
2. get a healthy diet like with fruits and vegetables
3. make shure you get alot of fiber into your diet so it will help you get rid of exess weight
4.and get alot of protein because that will help your body work the fat off when you work out.
Also one more thing is that if you have a low active thyroid you need to go and see a doctor and get some medication

i can relate. same height, same weight. last year i weighed 110 lbs and looked dead, so i think 120 sounds good to me. i have started going on the Atkins diet with my hubby and we have both started to ride bicycles and walking. I am hoping it works and works fast. I just gave up smoking in Jan. of this year and I ate and ate, and now i am learning to get thru my days and nights without eating all the time, but the weight is still there and hard and slow to lose. i don't know if you can go on the atkins diet with a low thyroid but i would suggest that diet and sticking with it, if you can do it.

You may try following and tell me,
1. Drink 1 glass of warm water with 1 tsp Honey and 1/2 squeezed lemon once you get up in the morning.
2. Try to drink warm water whenever its possible for you.
3. Skip rice from meals. And if you are rice lover then use unpolished rice (reddish in colour, usually you get it in Indian store).

forget the diet ... for now. Go see a thyroid specialist. You may need some meds to bring it to a "normal" level. That should help with step one. Regular activity will also increase metobalism. ....
