I am trying to crate-train my new puppy and I've only had her for a few days. She cries a lot at night, which I know is normal.. the problem is that I think she's lost her voice from barking so much!! Is this something I should worry about?

No, everything should be fine. If you haven't taken her to the vet yet for that first visit, I'd bring it up then. If you have, just call the vet and ask them. If they say bring her in, she should have another round of shots to get before too long that would probably work as well. If anything, it could be a sore throat, but nothing serious. If it goes on for several days, then you might want to call your vet. I looked online for you, and I couldn't find anything that made it sound like a serious thing. The most important things in pet parenting, are one keep a close eye on them when something seems wrong, and two trust your gut. Listen to your dog, if it's only the bark, then it probably isn't anything. If something serious was wrong, she would have stopped eating or drinking quite possibly. She would be lethargic. Basically, if something were seriously wrong, she would be giving you more signs. If you are truly worried, call the vet. They will understand. Also, don't listen to anyone who says crate training is wrong. Dogs LOVE crates once they get use to them. Too many people try to make their dog a human, and that just confuses the dog. You obviously care about her. A crate is a natural biological thing for a dog, my dog now does sleep in my bed, but when he gets confused or upset, he goes to his crate to sleep all on his own. He may actually prefer it. Don't let someone tell you to let him sleep in your bed to keep him quiet, unless your vet says something to you about it. I SERIOUSLY doubt that that would ever happen though. If you let her get away with that stuff now, she will never learn you are the boss.

yes this is a problem. why are you crate training. isnt she good enough for you. my dogs sleep in my bed and always have no matter the size. and yes I have had to wash my bedding from accidents. but i love my dogs and they grow up and learn to go pee out doors. I had neighbors that didn't want the dog in the bed so the father slept on the floor with her for 3 months. guess they loved there dog too. Sorry if this sounds mean but i am very much against crateing a dog. they are part of a family.

First, take the puppy to the vet and make sure he/she is in good health. Feed the puppy a good dog food like Natural Balance sold at Petco. Continue crate training the puppy but remember it needs to go out often.....it is just a baby.

i dont think so, it might be sore but nothing to worry about. If its longer then a week then I would call the vet and see what they have to say. If you are still having doubts them I'm sure you can just call the vet without having to make an appointment. But I've never heard of a dog losing its voice from barking to much. And please dont think that your dog will stop barking cause his throat hurts, puppies dont know that barking is causing his throat to hurt or losing his voice. Just keep him quiet, even if that means having the dog sleep with you for a couple of nights. Good Luck!

My Jack Russell was doing that a lot too, and i started to put a sheet over his crate so he couldnt see anything that would make him want to leave the crate. He cried for about 15 mins or so and he stopped. try that, it might work for you.

No need to worry, when she stops barking, her voice will come back. Put some ice in her water dish in the meantime. Stick with the crate, in the long run you'll both be happier.

your pups voice will come back, Just like a humans...

Good for you for not caving in to your pups whimperings. If you did they expect the same result everytime. When you don't respond they will see that you stand firm on your top dog rank.
