I believe $50,000 is on the very high end of adoption cost. We have adopted twice. In 2001, with our first adoption, our total expenses were $13,400. We again adopted just 3 months ago and our total fees for this one are about $20,000. I believe the "average adoption cost" are closer to maybe $20,000. I would look for an adoption agency that is either religious based or a not-for-profit agency. They tend to have lower fees and I believe that they look out more for the birth parents best interest more so that other agencies. Be open to different ethnicity's and sexes, which should help you match quicker and also reduce cost. Also you should qualify for the adoption tax credit, which will help recover up to $11,000 of your total expenses. Do a search on this tax credit if your are not familiar with it. Good luck and best of wishes to you.

She is right that the average adoption costs around 50 grand but that should incur all charges - especially if you go through an adoption agency. The money that you pay the agency will go to helping the biological mother pay her bills, pay for the attorney, and should cover the price of having your background check and your house and community thoroughly investigated. If you decide to go with adoption, there are two rules to live by, you can not, by any means,, buy the mother anything with out permission from the agency and above all else - never give her money.
Good news is, you will not be responsible for her doctor bills. In every state it is the biological mothers responsibility.

That depends entirely on where you live, and if you go the private route or through and agency, and your joint salary. To give you an example, I am a waiting parent for adoption in the state of Maryland, seeking domestic placement from MD, DC or VA. Our agency range is from $5000.000-$15,000.00 plus***
The additons to the normal "fees" include homestudy fees, FBI fingerprinting, social worker fees, any medical bills you would have to assume "if" the birthmother did not have insurance, any DNA testing that "may" be necessary if the father cannot be determined right away, any medical bills the baby may need after the birth due to complications.
Contact several agencies in your area. They will be able to give you a guideline. Also, beware of internet agencies, it's best to meet one on one with directors of agnecies and not rely on the phone or internet when considering such an important issue.

about 50,000.00. Its really expensive because the adopting parents have to pay for the hospital, court cost, money to mother, and than all the stuff for the baby.
Over seas babies about even worse because you have to spend 2 weeks in the country that you are adopting the baby from and pay for all the red tape with immagration.
